Just a Dog
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's Just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog."
They don't understand the distance traveled, the time Spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog,” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog", I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog", but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a man or woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog" just smile... because they "just don't understand."

That's awesome! It's funny to see that here even though I'm sure everyone has heard it at one time but there's a bunch of us that get together with our dogs and often talk and joke about those fools who say "it's just a dog" and really mean it, there just clueless.

I absolutely love this. There's a youtube video out there that puts music and pics to this and its just awesome. It gave me great solace after losing Bruno.

Awe! I like the video! Which led me to more dog videos, and that led me to bawling into my coffee this morning. What a way to start a Monday! I had never heard the poem before, but I've heard countless people say "just a dog" many times. In the non-computer life, most of my friends started as connections to my kids and it happens that very few have dogs, some of their husbands have dogs that they care deeply about, but the girls, with their new houses and perfectly decorated front rooms do not enjoy them. It's so hard for me to imagine, but I may just have to start handing the poem out to them

Great song with the pics and now all choked up. To think there was a time many years ago when I was a foolish lad that I was one of those people that said that I was clueless.
I'm not proud to admit it but I'm glad I have had the chance to open up and experience love of dogs, couldn't think of life without dogs.

I pity thost that have never experienced the love of "just a dog."

I messed up my last post I was trying to say I was not proud to admit that I once thought like those it's just a dog people.
Proud to admit I am now a dog lover and glad to have been awakened.

It is awesome when someone becomes a "convert" My husband grew up with "just dogs" that were on the farm, but usually picked for their aloof nature to help guard livestock. He just recently realized the connection you can have with a dog and it's fun to watch the transformation! It's funny because he's had it with horses his whole life
