I don't know if the link will work but it's something like this, LA cops want to search pit owners yard they make pit bull owner remove his dog without a leash even after he told the cops he needed to put him on one, the pit attacks the police dog so they shot the pit is that BS or what, the owner told the cops "taser my dog" but they said shot that mother F-in dog.
Cops totally miss handled that no reason for it.
on a operation if a pit bull would have attacked my service dog i would have done the same thing .... i would not allow my K9 to be injured..
it happen's quick...i was on a operation with Chicago PD i went to the alley, lucky i saw a pit bull tied to a car. the CPD officer walked around to the fenced back yard. we didn't see the other pit bull the Pit Bull jumped up and bit him in the arm & let go. they didn't shoot him. animal control came out. none of the dogs had any rabies shots. police officer's face that every day.
Jamie your correct something doesn't make sense. to sides to every story the owner may have wanted to go into the house ,car, etc ? may have been a officer safety issue?
There's alot of things that got screwed up with that whole situation.
1.) The owner should have put the pit in a police cruiser back seat, or his own vehicle.
2.) PD should have given him the assistance to get his dog to safety, quickly. ( rope works too )
3.) PD cannot allow someone to reenter their home when there is a suspected armed person in the immediate vicinity. Their not going to put someones life at risk for a leash. They don't know if the guy is in the house or not.
4.) A police dog is a police officer, they have the right to defend a fellow officer who is in mortal danger if they are human or dog.
5.) It should have never gotten to that point to begin with, but the decision to defend the officer was proper.
6.) The icing on the cake was when PD never ended up searching the guys property, and the owner later found a weapon. That was a big screw up.
So all in all, I'd call that whole turn of events fubar. Lots of things could have been done differently.
What I don't understand is what right do the cops have to tell him he could NOT grab a leash for his dog on his own property? Obviously they had zero concern for public safety, since the dog was obviously dog aggressive to some degree and could have broken loose to attack another dog if he hadn't singled out the K9.
What a terrible sad thing. I'm also curious why they shot the dog in the head when it was attacking their own dog. Wouldn't that have put their own dog at risk of being shot? Why not just taser? Did they manage to pull the two dogs apart and THEN shoot the pit bull while it was safely restrained? Does this mean that when a perp is attacking a police officer human that they're going to aim and open fire, risking their fellow cop's life? Or do they pull the perp off and then proceed to murder him?
If it happened like the news and owner is telling the cops screwed up, but not unusual shoot first question later.
The one thing I would not have done is let my dog out without a leash if the dog needed to be on a leash like his pit because a cop told me to, gun or no gun. I would have ignored the cop got the leash and then removed my dog preventing that trigger happy situation.
This one is really nice. They shoot the family golden AFTER they look in the station wagon and see him in there then open the door on a busy highway....oops, mistaken identity, sorry family! This guy had lost his wallet............ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_9yISBRSl0&feature=related
