I know leerburg puppies don't get vaccines however we travel so I think that getting some of them is a good idea.
Problem is ever person-vet has a different number and time when they should be given.
Keiko already had 2 5way shots when I bought him from the breeder.
at 5 weeks and 8 weeks
I called a vet here in the area and asked when Rabies should be given and they said 3 months. Keiko is 6 months so they gave it to him. However they said that he needs another 2 puppy shots because he shouldn't have had one at 5 weeks and the 8 week one counts as a first.
I have been told so many things and I don't know which one is right. Will he be fine with the ones he has had or should I do two more?
Also is the 7way better than the 5way? It covers two more things(not sure which) but I don't want my dogs getting sick because I gave them the wrong thing and it wasn't necessary.
Last question is: They gave a Rabies shot and said he needs one in a year even though the dose is the same as the 3yr vaccine because immunity needs to be built up. Is this true?

If he's already had 3 shots, I'd pull titers before giving him anymore. (it's expensive, but worth it, IMO) As far as what the vet said, about the vaccine at 5 weeks not being effective is pretty true. At that age, the natural antibodies from the mothers immune system are still effective in the pup, and will basically render the vaccine ineffective. Does that make sense?
With rabies, the common protocol is to vaccinate at 16-20 weeks, which is good for 1 year. Then, at the 1 yr mark, give a booster, which is good for 3 years. From then on out, it's repeated every 3 years, or according to state laws.
I personally do not like the 5 and 7 way combo shots- Corona and Lepto are not required (needed) in all areas, and with a large combo shot like that, you're seriously upping the risk of a vaccine reaction. IF your dog does have a reaction, you'll have no idea what specifically it was from.
Here is a link to Dr. Jean Dodd's vaccination protocol
http://www.doglogic.com/vaccination.htm
If titers are not high enough, you'd have to start from the beginning, as there has been such a lapse since Keiko's 8wk old vaccination.
This is all JMO, and just my experience as a vet tech. I'd go by Dr. Dodd's protocol (which I'm honestly not terribly familiar with- I don't vaccinate my dogs at all anymore)

What she said. Also, here's the Dodds protocol with additional comments boxes:

I know.
AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I always keep that particular link in my "drafts" file in my email program, despite the many other sites where it's been posted.

I should add that the link I posted is a chart prepared for California (where Dr. Dodds is). But it's clear that where the word "California" is used (and it's only on non-core vax) indicates a need to check on the prevalence in your own state.

right or wrong? i believe in prevention. i have my dogs & horse vaccinated for everything the vet recommends. i don't want to take a chance. i saw a puppy (not mine) die from pravo. to me it was senseless i'm probably overdue it, but when i was in k9 my dog went everywhere and in places that i wanted a flea dip. lol not trying to change anyone's mind it just how i deal with it..

Generally, in my experience, the puppies that die from Parvo have multiple other issues going on (parasites, low quality nutrition) and they are too young for a vaccination anyhow. (Under 8 weeks old) Parvo very rarely kills adult, healthy dogs. Actually, I'm not sure I've EVER heard of it killing an adult dog who is in good health.
Flea prevention is totally different then vaccines. I'd rather deal with Parvo, and sterilizing everything, then deal with fleas. YUCK!!!! Hate those bugs!!!!!!!
