I need to find a virtually indestructible ball. Gave up tennis balls when I found out about the glue/teeth problem. Any ball we get she can tear up pretty quick. Does Kong make a ball that's about tennis ball size? I've not seen one, but in Kansas, availability is not the best.
Just wondered what you like to use.

I'm also a Kansan. The people in our club that use balls get hard rubber ones. You can get them from most any pet store. Also might try the Valley Vet web site. They are in Marysville KS and have really good prices.

Where do you live? (don't need to answer if you'd rather not)
I live in Pratt, 70 mi. west of Wichita. My oldest son attends KSU at Manhattan. I have a 2.5 yr. old spayed GSD, Jala ("jay-la").

Pam,
Are you looking for something with which to teach OB?...or just a play toy?
For a play toy, Kong makes some tennis sized hard balls, with a grip configuration. Most Petsmarts and Petcos sell them, along with the regular Kongs. (you can get these on-line)
If for OB (and at the risk of seeming like a...mmm..suck-up... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) I would recommend the ball-on-a-string that Leerburg sells. I have two for several months now and they are still in good shape. (These are available from this site, on-line)
I tried to save some $$ by making my own: ie, Petsmart bell-in-ball; take out bell, put in knotted rope. But after going through two of those (tug play just destroyed them!) I decided it was just cheaper to get an indestructible one, even if it cost more. Regular Kongs are also good, but if you put one on a rope, insert a washer so the knot doesn't get pulled through during tugging. (Been through 3 of those too; with one still hung up in the tree out front...)

I found a great ball that really winds my Lab's watch! It's called a "Giggle Ball". It is made of hard rubber, with raised bumps for grip, and a noisemaker inside. It comes in two sizes. I bought the larger size, because I'm concerned about the risk of choking on a tennis-ball sized ball (I have heard of a GSD choking to death on a tennis ball). I don't know if that would work for what you're thinking, but it is a really fun ball. Just make sure that you don't let your dog have it for too long. I made the mistake the other day of taking my attention off my dog while he had his. The noisemaker thingy inside got wedged off-kilter, and now the ball is oddly shaped, and doesn't make the great noise. Dog still loves it, but I'm irritated with myself!

It's not made for a "heavy" or "strong" chewer.

Just wondered what you like to use. yes, Kong makes a ball. they have a hard rubber ball (same material as the kongs) and they make one with holes through it (for putting treats in it). Don't have their website, but I know they have them.
