Using fundemental marker training on-leash then moving to the e-collar, my Bouvier dog has become off-leash obedient, with one exception - occasionally he will "take the burn" of a stim to chase the dreaded squirrel up a tree. Most of the time, he will hold heal with much effort but on the occasional time he breaks heel, I fear he might run in to traffic and be hit.
Advice on e-collar techniques for correcting this occasional "wrong" would be greatly appreciated.
I would go back to working specifically on the recall. I would let a long line drag and work on recalls with a graduated scale of distractions. Glad to hear you are using marker training. Your communication system will help your dog process the information you are providing him quickly. This is called the proofing stage. Good luck and let us know how training goes!!!
Happy Training,
Roni
thanks Roni,
We went back to food/verbal marker and took my tri-tronics e-collar up from 2.5 to 3.5 (out of 5) / last night he held his heal with the help of a brief 50% stim while a rabbit dashed 3 feet in front of us on our evening walk. Previous two days he held on squirrels 15-20 feet ahead of us. Working on recall as you also suggested.
