Haiku busted her knee. We've been to the doc, and she's on kennel rest, but her knee was too inflammed (I took her in within an hour of the injury) to do an accurate 'drawer test' to determine if she ruptered the CCL. So she's on lock down. We will return to the vet on Wednesday or Thursday.
Even if her ligament isn't torn, I'll be keeping her on kennel rest for two weeks, at least. If it is torn, we'll do surgery and she'll be on kennel rest for an ungodly amount of time.
Anybody have any tips on keeping an 8mos old malinios 'quiet?' I asked if we could put her in a medically induced coma and my vet said that was a no go.
Taking her out on leash is not really preventing her normal antics... Plus, she is totally PISSED about being locked up. It breaks my heart. I've been trying to play shaping games (start the retreive etc) to busy her mind but she is coming out of the crate on fire. And I'm not really sure what I should do about crate spinning?
Equipment tips? Head collar? I will try to start her focused heeling straight out of the crate and see if that helps.....
Whenever Toni is injured and requires crate restriction, I give her Rescue Remedy. It appears to reduce her stress level, and I think she heals faster when she's not as stressed.
