Well its been a while so ill start with an update. We joined a SAR team about 4 months ago everything is going great, great people great dogs. The issue im having is as per my engagement training the dog is much less interested in playing with anyone else but me. My team trains victim loyalty so the dogs have all there drive to find the victim (really its the idea that the victim has their toy) and the victim is the only fun one. there are times that she will find, bark for indication, get the toy and grip it but not really play with the "victim", and if the "victim" lets go she blows them off and brings it straight back to me. We are slowly making improvements and im not in a hurry, Im just wondering if anyone has any experience with this or any idea on how to transfer her play drive to others.
How often do you train? What is your response when she comes back to you?
I'd try to to be meeting with team members 2-3 times a week for fun drive building sessions. Schutzhund style drive building with someone else doing the drive building.
And then don't play with her yourself!! Keep things low key and boring at home. For now the fun needs to happen with others at training. By not playing with her she'll be more ready to play when she gets the chance at training.
Selection of dog is among the most important factors. Sometimes we don't always get the dog we may want. If I were the T/D, I would look closely at whether or not it was time to find a different dog.

Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.

We train with the unit a few times a month and I have been using friends in between that to play with her. When she tries to come to me or even look to me while shes playing i ignore her (as per my T/D).
No one on my team is worried at this point seeming she is making progress every week, I am not worried either but I figured I would tap into the vast knowledge here on Leerburg.
This past weekend we did exactly what Mara said strictly drive building and play with others, and after a little of that she really committed to the play and tugged well and stayed engaged. So we will continue that and then move back to runaways.
I have done my best to limit our play sessions as much as i can and especially the week proceeding a training, life is boring at home for her.
I know she has the drive to do the work its just making the connection in her head that it just as much fun to play tug with joe shmoe as it is with me.
