I am just wondering if anyone could recommend a good Belgian Malinois Breeder? I have been researching a lot of breeders on the net, but would like some imput.
I am looking for a high drive working Belgian Malinois that will perform well in Mondioring. I am also looking for full breeding rights.
Please let me know! Thanks.

Are you willing to ship, and what time frame are you looking to purchase in? There are some good breeders within driving distance, and others that are shipping distances. Also what type of Malinois do you prefer, ie a more reactive dog, less reactive dog, big, medium, little, handler soft, handler hard, more prey oriented, civil, ??? Even registered vs unregistered comes into the equation.

Hi Sarah!
What is your experience with a high drive working dog? I only ask because I've had a lot of experiences with people who say they want a high drive working dog but really have no idea what a high drive dog is actually like to live with. The dogs then end up returned or in a shelter because they are so full of energy.
A Malinois is not an easy dog to live with. Have you spent time with a Mal puppy? Do you know someone who has one? I know you say that you have done research on the net for breeders, but have you actually spent 1:1 time with a Mal? Do you have the time and energy to devote to a Malinois puppy?
The day after I brought Toni home (she was 8 weeks old), the main thought in my head was "What the HELL was I thinking??!!" I had worked at Leerburg with some pretty high drive GSDs, and Toni's energy and drive put them to shame.
Also, when you say you want full breeding rights, are you planning on breeding the dog as well?

If you haven't had any experience with Mals, I'm willing to pay for the shipping if you'll take Radar for me for the rest of the year...
Just kidding! (but I do need a break)

Thanks, I'm not looking for anytime soon more like in March 2013. I am willing to ship as I'm looking for good bloodlines, temperment, and sound hips/elbows. I'm still sorting out the exact personality I would like, but I know I want high prey drive, high retrieval drive, high protection drive, & pack drives. I do want a registered dog as I am looking to compete and possibly breed (stud service, I want a male) if he titles well I would like to keep the bloodlines going. I am looking for a dog that would excell at Mondioring (whether we actually train in it or not, right now I train in SDA & Schutzhund).
Any suggestions?

I do know what it is like to live with a high drive working dog. And I love every minute of it! I currently own a giant schnuazer that is training in SDA and Schutzhund, but am looking to train in Mondioring so am looking for a dog that will have the drives to excell at it.
I have had 1 on 1 experience with a mal as well as numerous Czech line border patrol german shepherds (my second choice on a working line dog if I don't get the mal). I also own a standard poodle, but after working with german shepherds, mals, and giant schnauzers I am just in love with working dogs.
I want full breeding rights because I am going to actively compete with my dog in SDA, & Schutzhund or Mondioring. If my dog proceeds to excel at the training and gets many titles I would like to think about breeding. But breeding is not my main concern.

To be honest, I have always wanted a German Shepherd and have found a breeder that I will most likely go through if I end up going that route. I am doing my research because from the sounds of it a Mal would be able to keep up with me better and have the higher drives I desire out of a dog.
I have not been in the "working dog field" long, only a couple years, but I have been training dogs and horses since I was 15. My Giant Schnauzer is awesome, and doing great with his training...but I want higher drives!!!
I am not looking to get one soon, I would like to bring home my next dog in March 2013 though. I have been looking for imported Mals as well but just am not sure yet. Though I would get some feedback from other people.
