I'm starting to believe that Radar cannot eat kibble. He's been on TOTW venison for months now, and it will randomly turn his stomach sour. He'll eat breakfast around 7 am and vomit much of it up around 2 or 3 that afternoon (has happened twice), he'll go from solid poop, to soft serve, to diarrhea overnight, back to normal poop all within the span of three days. I can fast him, start him out slow again, and he'll be fine for a week or so and then it starts all over again. This just started within the last two bags. I've taken him to the vet and he's fine, and I've returned bags for new ones and it doesn't matter.
When he was younger I struggled with feeding him and it even resulted in a prolapsed rectum it got so bad. TOTW was the longest kibble to hold out for him, and now it's really hit or miss.
I want to try Diamond Naturals as a last ditch effort, but I'm starting to wonder if I should ask for a chest freezer for Christmas.
He only gets his normal kibble, a spoonful of lamb tripe here and there as a special treat, and peanut butter to cap off his kongs full of normal kibble. He's watched like a hawk when he's loose in the house because he loves to snatch things up and swallow them.
Any advice would be appreciated. Diamond Naturals chicken and rice has been my go-to kibble for dogs with sensitive stomachs. I'm not sure why, but it seems to work.
Yes! For several months he had very normal log poops on TOTW, with the occasional bout of soft serve caused possibly by treats, which is why I cut out all treats besides the two listed and kibble. The last two months or so (last two bags) has been hit or miss.

Oh, I see. I would buy a whole new (smallish) package from a different lot (or a different brand with a similar I.L.) to rule out something wrong with a lot.
When he was treated for giardia, what was the med and how long was the protocol?
I am curious about that too, Connie, after my experience with Tanka and his poop problem that lasted over a year with no test results showing anything.
One dog with prolapsed rectum that I knew suffered from chronic subclinical salmonella infection.
This likely has NOTHING to do with your dog, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
Does he eat around a bird feeder, or anything of the sort?
Do you own an iquana?
I'll call the vet later today to get the medication name and info. Radar eats inside only out of a clean stainless steel bowl every time and I don't own anything but dogs, cats, and ferrets. Shelby will sneak a ferret poop snack here and there but Radar has no interest in it.
I'll mention to the vet about salmonella but the tissue reverted back into his anus with steroid cream within a few days when it happened. I believe he was 10 weeks? Very young at least. Anything to check out is better than 3 am whining because he's about to explode.
Does anyone know a brand of dog food that has a similar ingredient list like TOTW venison? It's been at least three years since I've looked at dog food brands and I can't remember what's out there. There's a feed store about an hour away that specializes in canine diets with practically all the brands of dog food you could ever want. I suppose I could make a trip up there and talk to them.
