Just wondering what view people have of Cesar as a trainer...
I have been watching some of the episodes borrowed from the library and have found some of the info REALLY helpful. So just looking for you all's thoughts on this guy.

Here are a few opinions.
(I wouldn't call him a trainer as much as a behaviorist, BTW.)
Thanks I will have to read over this... I would really agree on the "behaviorist" I am really enjoying the stories of the dogs... I have really looked into how his walking technique on walking. Zuki is so different now and I am totally amazed

I think he's like a lot of dog trainers - you agree with bits of it but other bits make you shudder.
ANY dog will behave better if excercised more and cuddled less, especially if you structure the walk and don't let it pull/forge ahead. That's nothing new IMO
I think his methods work for him because of his confidence and presence.
I also think that some his methods are incredibly annoying and counterproductive when you have a TV taught dog expert. For specifics I think one should go further that a half hour TV shows that edit a good deal to get to the final product.
So watch him and come away with the idea that dogs needs structure and exercise. But his techniques are NOT going to work all the time and for some dogs will be downright counterproductive or dangerous.
I completely agree with Mara here. Like every dog, not all the methods will work- and trying could produce a dangerous situation. If you are feeling as though his methods are working well for you, I would go further than watching the shows and spring for a book or two, or even try to find more free info on his methods online. The "laying dogs on their side" move has produced some nasty results with local TV watching self-proclaimed "experts" Take it all in and decide what is best for you and your dogs, but know what the could happen both if it works, or if it backfires.
I consider Cesar someone I can learn from but not the ultimate dog trainer, behaviorist. He has helped a lot of dogs, many have become serious problems and probably be pts.
Most of his clients are pet dog owners that know very little about dog behavior.
I Like how he spends time learning about the owner as well as the dog. Much easier to rehabilitate the dog then the owner, usually the root of the problem. A do not believe he is a tv taught expert, read the book ,Cesars Way ,for his biography.
FWIW, I didn't mean that Caesar was a TV taught expert, I meant that people that watch the show often think themselves to be a dog experts (ie, "you should go "sh, sh, sh, on roll him on his side because Caesar does it all the time and it works!!")
