I would like to know how to I go about entering a schutzhund BH title. Do I have to join a schutzhund club? I see that there are 2 organizations-DVG and USA. Are both of these sanctioned to title in schutzhund.
As you can see I am new to the sport, although I have been training my dog in agility, protection, obedience for the past 2 years. I have titled her in AKC obedience. I am looking forward to moving on in the sport of schutzhund.
I am in the south florida area and if any on this board is down here I would like to chat with you. Any help would be appreciated.
There are DVG, USA and WDA that all have trials. I think only DVG and WDA are in South Florida. You must have an officially recognized scorebook. DVG scorebook would be your easiest considering USA/WDA issues. You can trial in either club with your DVG scorebook. USA just puts a stamp on it. WDA gives you a new book.
Go to the DVG or SchH USA websites - they list clubs and point-of-contacts on the website.
No, you don't have to join a club, but if you intend to compete in the sport, it's a good idea. You'll be hard pressed to get the correct training needed to pass an event without the support of a club and it's members.
Finding a club in South Florida will be easy for you.
Just getting into SchH myself, and hope to compete for BH and continue to work on the SchH obedience.
I plan to join a club only to have access to their grounds, but have a trainer whose brain I can pick who used to run a club for 8 years and who everyone here bows to and practically lick his feet (LOL. Just find that funny since I have known him for a good 5 years and would never even think of doing that -- though he knows A LOT)
If you can't find a trainer like that, probably joining a club would be your best bet ... Just my opinion, mind you.
I am lucky enough to have a trainer/friend. He is a two time U.S.P.C.A. National champion.I also help him train other dogs, as well as, many police K-9.
Mike are you talking about Bob Anderson? In regards to Sch. clubs in south Fl. there is one in Palm Beach county and another in Miami that is run by Phil Hoelcher. Let me know if you have any questions on either club.
No, I am not talking about Bob Anderson. Can you tell me a little about the club in Palm Beach. I live in Broward and the club in Miami is all the way down past Kendall. Maybe the one in Palm Beach is closer. I am probably going to compete without being affiliated with a club. Any info would be appreciated.
The club in Palm Beach has about 25 members. It meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm for obedience and saturday at 5:00pm for protection. The meetings take place in Loxahatchee which is about 15 miles west of Palm Beach Airport.
