My girl Terra (rescue dog terrier mix) (By the way her latest blood work was normal. We are weaning her off the meds now.) barks when I ask her to do anything. she is very intense.I have trained speak and enough but it makes no difference. She also barks when I ask the other dogs to stop barking "enough" and this just sets off my cody -parsons russel mix. He is amped up as it is. This causes everything to go crazy. As i say enough, she barks at all the dogs and the dogs bark at her. (all except Bindi who just sits or if she is really agitated, runs around. I am having a tuff time with these behaviors and need help. I want them to stop. When Terra doesn't bark things slow down much quicker. Cody is a reactive dog and many things can set him off. TOnight a black cat walked around in our yard. He began barking, I went to see what he was barking at, and said enough, he stopped for a second, (was rewarded) then began again as Terra started barking.
Please help, I can spend a large part of my day trying to get the barking under control. Terra also barks when I train her. Thanks. sharon
Sharon,
I am SO HAPPY Terra is doing well; so well that she's even annoying you. From your description it sounds like you may have trained the barking.
Thor in thinking mode barks when he is trying to figure out what I want. The bark is almost like a light bulb going on and often happens with the asked for behavior; which is where I ran into trouble because I would mark the bark/correct behavior and he started offering up a lot more barking, not as much of the behavior I was looking for.
What I did was added a no reward marker; a simple "UH" when he would bark and never marked when he barked unless I asked for it. It took a little time but it did stop; I also retrained some behaviors with a different command word. For instance in your case maybe change the word "enough" for all the dogs.
I do usually throw the "speak" command out there a couple times during a training session because it seems to build his drive and reduces his frustration. Its rather odd; since outside of training or herding something, he rarely barks.
Oh well, I hope this helps and thanks for the update on Terra.
