Every Friday Morning Jamie Rappaport does a piece on The Today Show on adopatable dogs from NYC Animal Control. This morning the last dog was a Mal, approximately one year old. Anyone in the area might want to get in touch with the agency, I think they are on 110 Street in Manhattan.
The main problem I have with this is that I know a rescue group contacted NYC Animal Control about a week before the dog was even going to get featured and were told they could not take the dog because he was on "media hold" for the show. Really? A dog has to spend another week in Animal Control so he can go on TV and have a bunch of people fall in love with a breed they are not prepared to deal with?
I contacted the local rescue group on Friday and they told me the same story they told Michael. I was shocked that they (the shelterr)would keep a dog on cold, tile floors for that reason. I fired off an indignant email to the Today Show but of course I did not get an answer.
Because my early carrer was in media I am not quite as skeptical of the press as some others on this board; but I am really disappointed over this. Jill Rappaport who gets all kinds of awards for her work really should be ashamed of herself.
He's a GORGOUS dog- beautiful red sable. Looks a lot like my Caterina.
(There has been talk that he was adopted after his appearance, but is still listed as available. I am trying to confirm if he is in fact out of the building. I will let you all know what I find out...)
*** Just heard from someone who talked to the shelter directly, and he IS SAFE and OUT of the building!!!! Now lets all pray he went to someone that understands a working dog!
