This probably sounds so dumb, but it's become a big problem! The weather has been so dry here this winter that we are constantly getting those little shocks that happen when you touch things, especially Kasey!
The poor dog is constantly getting shocked, and we get it every time we touch him. He is now starting to get hand-shy because it happens so much. Even when he is just laying on the floor, and you walk up to him, he wags his tail and you can hear the electricity being generated by his tail swishing across the carpet.
We usually have a lot of humidity in California and have not had this issue. As dumb as it sounds, does anyone have any ideas that can help reduce these shocks? I have tried running a cool mist humidifier, but it doesn't help much.
My daughter had a sensitivity to weird stuff when she was little. As a toddler she had hair down to her butt, and she would cry and cry in the winter when she would get shocked.
My Mom told me to keep the dryer sheets after doing laundry, (they feel too yucky fresh from the box), and just wipe them over her hair and the furniture ect. She's 16 and still carry one in my purse. They're great for static cling in clothes. Should work for a dog too I guess. I just run them across anything static-y.

1. Humidify the air.
2. Drier sheets wiped over the dog until the humidifier is up to speed.
This is the gist of what I have read on several sites. I remember that creme rinse (very much like fabric softener) worked on my hair when it was long and shocky in dry weather, so this made sense to me.
FWIW, some of the sites I visited warned against dryer sheets because of the nature of some of the chemicals. This site suggests pet-safe conditioners.
I agree about the chemicals before they've been through the dryer, but after, they shouldn't be any more harmful than freshly washed bedding, and they work just as well.
