When you say nosework kit, what does it include? What are you planning on using for a reward? Are you planning on shaping the final response and imprinting odor with target boxes?
the nosework kit is the one LB sells
reward will be a ball or tug
and we will start out with target boxes
im not interested in comprteing or trialing
just looking to have fun with the dog
I just watched the Leerburg Nose Work DVD, and it is great! It's your best bet for getting into detection work. Andrew is a great trainer, and his system is such that it will bring out the drive in just about any dog. He and Ed explain in very simple terms the foundation for detection training any dog. They work with a broad spectrum of dogs, from Cindy's Rush who is very high drive, to a 12 year old Dachshund, and they all have a great time. This is fun for every dog.
I could type for 2 hours and not give you 2% of the information available in that video. You need to SEE what is happening with the dog when it is searching. It is not something easily conveyed through words. I HIGHLY recommend the video!
