I sent an email to the Michael Ellis school to see if they had any trainers in Florida and they told me to see Ivan. Of course I had seen him on YouTube but didn't realize he was in Florida. He's about 3 hours away. Needless to say it was amazing. It pretty much confirmed what I knew, that I'm doing a terrible job of motivating my dog. We mostly worked on how to deliver treats, play tug, and play fetch. All of which I was way off on. Watching videos is much different than having someone watch you and tell you your mistakes. Watching him play with my dog was incredible! He kept saying "there's a lot of dog in there" and that he had good drive. I always thought his drive was low, turns out I'm just a crappy motivator!! I've got a lot to work on, but am planning on training with him monthly. I think my dog has a lot more potential than I realize, and hopefully I do to. I hope next time I get to meet his dogs and watch them work together.

Sounds wonderful! Is Ivan still in the Plant City area?
Amazing how easy they make it look isn't it? I know I watch them and say no problem I can do that. I get out there and try to duplicate it and end up tripping and doing a somersault over my dog or something.
Of course I only do that when I have an audience......
Yes, he's still in Plant City. And having him watch me work with my dog was really awkward, you kind of shut down and get quiet because I was afraid everything I was doing was wrong...which it turned out to be
It's fabulous when you make a total you-know-what out of yourself in front of an awesome trainer. Great to see the dog's ability when the experts do it, but for someone like me (who is getting better, but still pretty shakey) to see an awesome trainer take your dog and make it look so easy (ehem- Sarah M ) Only to trip all over yourself, the leash, the dog and babble on like an idiot The ultimate learning experience!
I am a total train wreck around awesome trainers... I've known Ed and Cindy for years and still get flustered when they watch me do something with the dogs...
I am sure Michael Ellis thinks I am a babbling idiot... At the first Ellis Seminar Ed had at Leerburg, it was hot and my job was to "keep Michael hydrated" which means I had to give him bottles of water and stuff throughout the day... the first one I took out to him I almost dumped on him. Between that and catching him in the tent changing into the bite suit... I still can't look the man in the eye... and my cheeks are red just writing about it...

Don't be so hard on yourself Amy, it wasn't bad at all!
