As you may or may not know I'm a dog trainer, do a lot of work with aggressive dogs etc.

I have a 2 day bootcamp scheduled next week with a Presa.
Basically we'll be putting in some serious obedience training but this dog has 'issues' with other dogs.

This is a very rare breed in the UK and all of the similar breeds - dogo's etc. have been banned for 20 years. So I have no experience with this type of mollasor. Is there anything in particuluar that i may need to know about handling this breed?

My research tells me that they're rather reactive, stubborn powerful, can be fearful etc.... but then that's true of a lot of breeds.

Figured that this would be a great place to ask.

Tanith, my brother has a little Presa/Mastiff cross, don't know the actual lines but he was rescued from the original owners who got him from the breeder. They had a young child that he "growled" at when he was about seven months old.

Having active breeds at the moment, this dog struck me as extremely subdued. For a young pup, his energy level seemed quite low, his movements quite methodical. A real thinker. He's also extremely strong when he sets his mind to something.

All was going well from what I understood (brother lives almost 5 hours away) but I got a call the other night that he was having problems walking him (actual pulling from this lazy guy) and he got into it with a little pit bull on one of their park runs.

He's about a year and a half now and has been a breeze, according to my brother, so far, but he was quite concerned about these changes he seems to be going through.

Not being there, I could only offer some crazy walking advice and absolutely no further interactions with dogs, known or unknown until he gets a handle on what's going on, not to mention some solid obedience (he's not really one to do a lot of training).

I've got 3 really solid dog on dog dogs (does that make sense) and hopefully we'll get together here soon to get a read on what's happening.

Personally, I think he's going through a little maturity testing that could turn ugly really quickly if he doesn't get this straightened out.

And who knows what the pit bull said but he's shown that he's willing to lash out. From what my brother said, there was no vocalizing before the attack, so be prepared to read some body language.

Tanith I can put you in touch with some really good Presa people through Mollosser rescue in Bedfordshire if thats any good?
