Im searching for an older puppy or young adult male GSD. Im interested in one that isnt high enough drive to be used in protection or agility but that have enough drive to play and be taught commands and other things. I want one that I can train as therapy dog. He must be OFA or have German stamp for the parents. Color isnt a deal breaker but I love the bi-blacks. He MUST get long with cats as we have three. If he were to be house trqined thqt would be great.
I live in Birmingham Alabama and are willing to drive up to four hours or so to see/get him....or we could meet somewhere in the middle.
I think temperament is more important for a therapy dog than breed. Are you looking for a GSD because that is just what you want, or is there some other motive?
I would look at the rescues. Older rescue dogs can make great therapy animals.
I was thinking rescue, myself. This link is just an example; there are breed-specific rescues for different breeds, but this one will give you an idea of the temperaments of the dogs you might find in one...
Your right...temperment is first and foremost. Ive had German line GSD's for the last 25 years and love working with them I have had two that I got as young adults and they both were great at therapy dogs. I have looked into rescuie but just havent found what Im looking for and I wanted to try this route.

Sounds like your looking for a German Show line, PM Barbara Schuler and ask her where she got "Falco" from, I love his coloration, mild mannered, loves to play, very biddable, wouldn't bite a biscuit.
