I'm gonna buy a dogtra 1200 ncp from Mr. Frawley, as some of you kindly advised me on this board a few months ago, and would like to learn as much as I can about e-collar training.
I think there is a forum (hosted by Lou Castle?) where to learn about this. Anyone knows the address?
Here in Spain only a few professionals use it for specific things (apport, etc.) Everyone says its a dangerous tool and I wouldn't like to do things wrong.
I would like to use it for the recall and, if possible, for SchH (IPO) obedience.
Do you know any websites with this kind of information?
Thanks in advance.
Pedro.

I just bought a Dogtra 1200 NCP collar.
I think it can be a great tool.
I'm training RCI (IPO) and getting ready for RCI I (like SchH I). My dog does well in obedience, but I would like to improve the recall and other things with the e-collar, keeping the tug as the prey/reward as well.
I want to learn as much as I can, besides the articles that I read on the internet.
I think there is an e-collar forum hosted by Lou Castle, but I don't have the address. Does anybody have it?
Thanks in advance,
Pedro.

Lou told me to go to groups.yahoo.com and the group he gave me is:
Ecollar_Dog_Training_Plus · Ecollar Plus
It is one of four groups you will get if you do a search on yahoo for ecollar. Lou is not listed as the moderator on the page but he is a member and regularly posts.

Thank you very much for your help.
I'll do as you say and make a search and also visit the e-collar forum.
Best regards,
Pedro.

Pedro you can find some of my latest articles on Linda Guidry's website at
http://www.finographics.com/schutzhund/obedience/ecollarwork.html
My own website will be up soon and will have the latest versions of them as well.
The Ecollar Plus sub list is moderated and owned by Paula Lind, not me. I just post there.
If you have any questions that those articles don't answer, feel free to email me privately, post it here, or on the Ecollar Plus list.
Lou Castle has been kicked off this board. He is an OLD SCHOOL DOG TRAINER with little to offer. |

Dear Lou,
Many thanks for your help.
I want to learn as much as I can about e-collar training.
When I mention e-collar here people (and I mean experienced sport handlers), they look at me like I'm a wierdo who wants to kill his dog by electrocution.
But the thing is the Spanish guy who was 3rd at the WUSV this year, with same points as 1st and 2nd, is the dogtra dealer in our country. That makes me think.
You can check his website at http://www.cecapa.com
I don't want to hurt my dog. Just use e-collar at low level as a method to control off-leash and improve performance in RCI/SchH.
Thanks again. It's really an honor that someone like you, with your knowledge and experience can give advise to sport fans like me and many others from all over the world.
Best regards,
Pedro.

Hi Pedro
one general advice from my side is
Dont teach your children write a sentence if they dont know the alphabet.
The ecollar a perfect tool in the right use but a mess if used wrong.
So everything you might use a correction for with the leash can be done AFTER this teaching with the ecollar too, just to let the dog know that he s in control even off lead and you go less with a big bodylanguage
Using the e collar as a instrument of a hard correction you should make up your mind about the double amount of positiv influnce to the dog BEFORE.
If i dont know this i better quit using it.
one more important thing to my opinion is that you get the dog used to the collar ,the corrections with it and that the dog doesnt know it s ecollar time <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Dear Jutta,
Thanks for your message.
For now my female is just going to wear the e-collar. No impulse. Just to get her used to the collar.
I won't use an intensity that I haven't tried on me first and know how it feels. (That's pretty fair considering I never tried the prong on myself!)
Anyway, I will only use low stim. I have tried number 20 of the Dogtra 1200 ncp on me and I'm pretty sure my dog will respond with that.
She knows her obedience. Here, fuss, sitz, platz, voraus, bring, etc... but she knows off leash, if she doesn't want to play, she can give me the finger because I cannot correct her.
I'll make sure she's bilingual (that she knows e-collar language too) before I work off leash with the e-collar. And I'll condition her to obbey every time long before I try without the e-collar, to make her think that she can always get a correction for not minding.
Don't worry. I hate to correct my dog. But I can't take the risk of her running after a cat, rabbit, or another dog and getting hit by a car. A little discomfort is better that her being injured for life or killed.
I'll let the board know how it works for us.
Best regards,
Pedro.
