Stuck at home tonight so I'm watching this. The guy has a few points, but he's also fool hardy. Let a little dog get attacked by a much larger dog that was known to be aggressive.
"Solved" territorial/fear aggression by tying the dog up in the office. I was watching the dog's body language thinking that that dog was just waiting for someone to get into leash range or lean under the table to pet it. The dog is still an accident waiting to happen.

I only caught a bit of it since I was watching the Stanley Cup championship game, but the little I did see was pretty awful. Especially the part you mentioned about the dog being tethered in the corner. He wasn't solving any problems, he was just treating symptoms.

He brought up a couple of good points, but overall his methodology is shallow and ineffective as a long or short term solution. The territorial/resource guarding behavior was definitely not handled in anyone's best interest except to placate the business owner.
Your absolutely right Mara, that dog is just waiting for anything or anyone to come in range of that leash, then it's fight city, as she proved.
I hate to say it, but a martingale collar is a correction collar, and when utilized in it's intended manner does restrict breathing airflow as the correction. Hence "this isn't a choke chain", yeah it actually is in it's basic sense.
Put it on yourself and give it a yank, then tell me it's not.
I had to cringe a little bit when she started dragging him by it at the beginning of the "training" there. I think maybe a positive reinforcement approach would have been more beneficial instead of the positive correction method. However it wouldn't have been such a "quick fix" for the show.
Overall, I think it's teaching some dangerous, short term, quick fixes to some serious problems.
The Burmese mountain dog portion was dead on with a visit to the vet first thing, then teaching the "leave it" command. The only part I would have changed would be to instead reinforce that treats come from MY hand, not the sidewalk, or from strangers. Allowing the dog to take the treat from the sidewalk, even only with permission, gives the dog the impression that "hey , maybe I can have this one, I'll try and find out". Instead of all treats on the sidewalk are to be ignored, and you can focus on me instead, which will get you a reward. JMO

Exactly! He's more showman than dog trainer
Absolutely agree with with martingale being a correction collar. It's just a more viewer friendly than a prong or choke. Drove my nuts to see them leave it on the dog when they left him for the night.
The other thing that I thought was weird was how they went on and on about the untimely death of the first Bernese Mountain Dog. Yes, cancer is horrid especially when it pops up quick. BUT the dog was 11 which was is a pretty normal life span for that size breed.

Obviously this show is for entertainment value and not very good at that! Both the bulldog and mountain dog looked like they needed exercise from a health standpoint not to mention the behavioral benefits. The lady with the mixed breed dog needs pack leadership skills. I will not waste my time on Dogs in the City.

Streamed it just now.
This is a prime example of why so many dog owners have such a hard time finding a good behaviorist especially for dog aggresssion issues. (with Charlotte the aggressive mix) I didn't see protection, I saw reactivity rooted in fear. There was no confidence in her demeanor at any point. The trainer should have corrected as soon as Charlotte got into the 'hard' stare at the approaching poodle. I may not agree with Cesar Millan on everything, but he would've seen the stare and stepped in with a correction before the attack. Good behaviorists are few and far between.
I also don't like his pompadour and leather jacket. Watch Saturday Night Fever much? Won't be wasting any more of my time on this show.

I had an interesting thought, they should put Michael Ellis on there as a guest so he can tell the fonzie looking guy how much of a ***** he is. That would be hilarious.

Michael is far too nice a guy to call him a ****** - We could put Ed on there ... but then there would be a lot of bleeping...
Personally, I wasn't impressed with the commercials about the show, and have no interest in watching it- I would much rather spend the time with my dogs....
