I have a Dogtra YS500 bark collar that I use on my 1-year-old Lab and it works great. He uses level 5. I've started using the same collar on my 5-month-old Lab. The collar goes from 1 - 7. I started out low and move up after awhile of him still barking. It is now set for level 3.5 and he continues to bark but screams afterwards. He's continually doing this. I'm not sure what to do next. Should I leave it where it's at and hopefully he'll learn how to turn it off? Or do I move it up to level 4?
First I would try to help him and give him a 'No' at the same time the correction cames. As soon he stops barking I would praise him to tell him he did good. If he doesn't learn it this way I wouldn't hesitate to go to 4 or 5. It's the same as a leash correction. If it takes a stronger jerk with the leash to correct him you have to do it. You don't stay with medium and wait until he may learn. Some dogs just need a harder hand than other.
