Just picked up a bag of Victor Grain Free ALS food to try with my dogs. It's made in Texas of US sourced ingredients (99% US sourced according to the bag). I heard about it on a another board where a few members said their dogs have been doing well on it for years.
I've been feeding 50/50 THK and Orijen recently. I love that Orijen, but this is almost half the price so I'm hoping my dogs do well mixing the Victor in with THK instead.
First 6 ingredients for the grain free ALS - beef meal, sweet potatoes, chicken meal, peas, chicken fat, pork meal
First 6 ingredients for the grain free performance - chicken meal, chicken fat, peas, sweet potato meal, beef meal, lamb meal
I paid $39+tax for a 30# bag of the ALS. The performance was $41/30#
This is exciting. I just called the nearest feed store that carries it and while their prices are different, it's still very comparable to what I've been paying for other brands that were listed in the Diamond recall. I'm going to go check them out today.
I will have to give them a try. I too use Orijen for my new GSD pup and Natures Domain for my other two older girls. It looks like it is rated at 5 stars.
I'm moving back to Texas at the end of Aug. will check it out then
I'm in SW Michigan and found a feed store that caries it. I was surprised to find it since I didn't think it was distributed this far. I've heard that some Whole Foods stores carry it. But I think you'd be most likely to find it at the small Mom and Pop type feed stores
Where in SW Michigan did you find it? In the event that everything plays out right, I'll be moving to Grand Rapids and am nervous about being able to find it in that area.
Oh cool! Grand Rapids is a pretty nice city - I worked/lived there for 2.5 years. I found the food in Dowagiac which is a 3 stop light town about 1.5 hours south of GR near the MI/IN state line. BUT if they've got it there it means that a supplier in the area is carrying it. There are some nice independently owned pet supply stores and feed stores in/around GR that quite possibly would be able to get it. If you need suggestions of where to look PM me and I get you a list.
When I bought my Toy Poodle, his breeder suggested Victor's. I'd never heard of it before. All my dogs were IMMEDIATELY switched as it was MUCH cheaper per pound than what I'd been feeding.
They've been on it 9 months now & I have nothing but praise for the way they look, their energy level, and the quality of the food. I'm also pleased that they run their own company and have NEVER had recalls.
