I saw some discharge last night and made an appointment for the vet right away this morning. Cat is 8 weeks past her heat cycle, and leaking discharge. No other symptoms. First thought was Pyo.
I was right. My vet confirmed it today. She is scheduled for surgery on Friday morning. We would do it tomorrow, but my vet is off and I don't want a stranger doing the surgery.
Lab tests today were perfect- white count was actually in the low-normal range. My vet said that we caught it really early and her body hasn't even recognized the infection yet. We have her on Baytril for 10 days.
I have been kinda freaking out since I saw the discharge. Paul finally got it when I broke down telling him she needs surgery. Some of you know that Cat's mom (Aera) died after routine spay surgery- she was almost 8.. Cat is almost 8...
We could sure use some of those awesome Leerburg healing thoughts coming our way... Cat is my heart and soul...
Sending you and Cat lots positive, healing thoughts and energy!
So glad you caught it early Kelly.
I truly believe catching it early makes all the difference in her ability to recover.
I also think its good you are waiting for your regular vet, just for your peace of mind. I will be thinking of you Friday!
Keep us updated! Hang in there Kelly!

Sending healing thoughts your way right now! I'm sorry to hear Cat has to go through this, and I understand your apprehension. The previous female dog I owned came down with pyometra at the age of seven. She had an extremely heavy, thick discharge She went in for emergency surgery and had a very good outcome, a quick recovery. I'm hoping the same will be true for Cat.

Thank goodness! You caught it fast and you know the G/A drill.
I have a very positive feeling here. Keep us posted!
Thanks everyone!! You all make everything better- more bearable...
The good thing is that Cat doesn't know she's sick. Her and Toni just got done chasing some rabbits in the yard, and she's sacked out on the bed. Business as usual for her
They leave the worrying to us, don't they?
I just made a batch of yogurt for her too- can you say spoiled?? Nothing but the best for my muttlings...
Good for you to catch it early. Pyometra is life threatening but caught early with 24 hrs-48 hrs of antibiotics on board = correct management and should lead to a good outcome. Also the open pyo is a + vs. closed.
Paul is working tonight and won't be home until after I take Caterina to the vet.. he gave her a big hug and kiss before leaving for work. He told me that she'll be fine- she's tough.
Got a lot of Cat snuggling planned for the weekend - She's probably gonna want to chase that damn suicidal rabbit though...
Kelly, I am sending healing prayers your way. No doubt in my mind you and your tough gal will be fine; in fact this sounds like it will be harder on you. Please keep us posted.
Oh Kelly, I sure hear you on the worrying. What's with the men too? Just like the dog's, leaving it all up to us. Sure do appreciate the cool head and steady shoulders to worry on though.
Going under really bothers me too. As with Kat's mom, so many things can go wrong. They knocked Vince out right in my arms. That's the second time a vet's done that to me with him. Most don't want anything to do with him while he's awake.
Sounds like Kat's got a great vet that she's familiar with. Suicide bunny gets a break and hopefully all the spoiled nursing will have her smiling like a Cheshire Kat in no time.
Prayers and hugs Kelly. My thoughts will be with you guys tomorrow.
