Even if it looked like an allergy (it doesn't to me), dogs with allergies itch. This is almost an absolute, unless the dog is on Pred or something .... their histamine receptors are mainly in their skin (unlike ours, largely in our mucus membranes). The number one symptom, far and away, for environmental, flea saliva dermatitis, and food allergies, is itching/biting/licking.
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1587&aid=503 "A dog who is allergic to something will show it through skin problems and itching, i.e., pruritus. It may seem logical that if a dog is allergic to something he inhales (atopy) like certain pollen grains, he will have a runny nose; if he is allergic to something he eats (food allergy) such as beef, he may vomit; or if allergic to an insect bite (urticaria or hives), he may develop a swelling at the site of the bite. In reality, the dog will seldom have these signs. Instead, he will have a mild to severe itching sensation over his body and maybe a chronic ear infection."
I'm not familiar with fox mites. Wouldn't they be seen under the 'scope?
Hi Connie, Fox mite should had been seen under the scope but the vet did say that if another dose of Advocate and shampooing doesnt start to work within 2 weeks they gonna put him under anestic and take a deeper skin sample to see whats going on. mites can be deeper into the hair folicol she thought.
Vet didnt mention Melatonin but we have though about it since there has been a definate lack of sun since he was born. it has been literally been raining non stop.
His skin is very dark/black all the way round. I cant see any change in skin color on patches. All tho, there are little white spots.
He does have some discharge from his penis been giving him yogurt for that.
Have you mentioned this to your breeder to see if any other pups from the litter have had similar problems?
BB's are prone to skin problems, my 2 still have the occasional out break of acne on their chins, are the affected areas crusty?
All three of mine had dry and scaley skin patches at various times, they all cleared up without treatment, but you did the right thing going to your vet.
hmm.. difficult one your asking there lol... something along these lines...teenagers skin that has an spot coming up but it just doesn't non infected one ofc and/or white lump under skin (teenager again) soft but not a spot.
