New to the forum. Gotten so much helpful info from the site and DVDs. Excited to keep getting feedback from the forum.
I've been around Pit Bulls my whole life. I've been rescuing, rehabilitating, fostering, and advocating loudly for the last 15 years or so.
My wife has been a non breed specific "dog person" her whole life, and been a "Bully" advocate for over a decade now!
While we've been doing this work and helping lots of dogs..... We were always getting by on intuitive skills. We had no real formal understanding of dog training concepts.
Recently we got hooked up with Chris Fraize of Canine Solutions in Sanford Maine, and got introduced to the world of "working" dogs and formal training concepts. We've become determined to get good at dog training!
Unfortunately, We can't continue our time regularly with Chris as it's about 4 hours of driving round trip to our town, and we own our own business, so time is limited.
So, I'm hoping to continue learning, from here, and occasional seminars.
Right now our pack consists of a pair of sibling APBTs. Brother and sister about 2. Milo and Mabel. An Alapaha Bulldog named Bella about 1.5 years old. And, a crotchety old chow/cattle dog mix female named Emma. She basically a home body now. The pack walks are too much for her.
So as for "working" the dogs... it's just the 3 bullies!
Wanted to include photos, but unfortunately, not that tech savvy!
Welcome to the board, Jay. This is a great place, full of information and good advice about many aspects of dog ownership. I've benefitted immensely in the time I've been hanging around, and I'm sure you will, too!
Down stays. From left to right- Milo, Mabel, Bella. (Milo and Mabel now have SOLID down stays, and don't need tethers. Bell.... Not so much).
Here's The morning Pack Walk.
