The joys of hot weather, which includes having to mow the lawn less, do not include the increased volume of blown coat and tufts of hair every where.
Comb out a dog, and overnight, tufts of hair every where. Incredible. The dogs look awful. Reach over and pull off a tuft.
I have never seen this much hair.

We have a white dog who sheds non-stop. I've abandoned fleece garments. My car looks like cars I owned when I was 16.
We've recently added a downy pup expected to mature near 70 lbs, was just thinking as I stroked that silky softness what a mess it will be in spring.
What is the value of a double coat in modern life? Like horns on cattle, this seems to me a trait that could be bred out !

Betty, you may be pleasantly surprised with your pup. My short hair dog always seems to shed twice as much as my long haired dogs have. I think it's because the longer coats trap the hair somewhat so it just doesn't fall out everywhere. If I brush Kenzi a couple times a week she hardly seems to shed at all. I brush Kipp and the fur is flying again in a few hours.

Same here. Even though our older dog has passed now about a month ago, we still see little tumbleweeds of her fur rolling by on our hardwood floors every so often. So, she's still with us in her own little way. Our Mal, even with her shorter coat, is doing her best to make up for what her older sister left around the house. I thought it would get better but it's not. It's never ending.

Ive furminated a couple times out of frustration! But I don't want to use it too often and thin him out too much!
But it's those pesky pin hairs that bug me, the furminator works well, but if i overuse it, im going to cause problems.
I will sometimes just use my hand and stroke down his back over and over for a few minutes and they all come loose and pile up at the top of his tail and i grab them and toss them...but a few days later there's a new batch loose.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

Because of the way the furminator strips the coat it's pretty easy to get your dog practically naked if you use it on them several times a week or for prolonged grooming sessions. Pretty much if you keep brushing them, you'll keep getting hair out unlike something like a pin brush where if there's no loose hair to be had, you're not going to pull any out.
No issues with occasional or reasonable use (going over them once or twice a week)

FWIW, my favorite way to get the most amount of hair out -
Brush the dog really well using a pin brush and a furminator or shedding blade. Bathe the dog. When dry, brush again with a pin brush. This seems to give me a 3-4 day break in the shedding.

Looks like a snow storm around here everytime my male shakes. Female is tighter coated so isn't quite as bad..almost though. I pull off tuffs of hair everytime they pass by me. :-) My truck....well I won't even go there....Lets just say you don't want to ride in my truck this time of year.
Dog hair sweaters or scarves anyone?

Wellll good, it's not just me. I thought I was doing something wrong or that the Furminator wasn't living up to it's billing. When I saw "Reduces shedding by 90%", I thought all my problems would be magically solved.
