I have a 1 year old dog, and about 3 days ago got a 4 month old puppy, I havent introduced them yet, The problem I am having is the 1 year old is over the top jealous, I have had him for about 8 months and it has only been us 2 in the house. I think I am the reason he wont acccept the puppy, it seems they are fine when one is in the crate and the other is near, unless I am in the room. If I am in the room the 1 year old will attack the cage. Would it be a good idea to have another person come in and introduce them the first time. My thinking is maybe they would like each other then I would slowly come into the picture, I dont know if that sounds dumb or not I really dont have any other ideas. Can anyone help me with this?

Number one: not in the house, and number two: the dog does not have access to the cage to attack it or even to approach it, to posture at the puppy, to give stink-eye, or anything else. Is this the Cane Corso?
Have you read Ed's intro article?

Introduce them on neutral territory with someone else handling the pup. Doing it in your house is doing it on your dog's territory and can trigger the jealousy but it sounds like you've already brought the pup in though. "The one yr old will attack the crate".

I'd even go so far as not in your yard--or any territory that the current dog thinks is his.
Pick a spot down the road--in a park, empty field, neighbor's property that is not home turf. Let the dog and pup meet in this "neutral" territory, then walk home together. Then follow Bob and Connie's excellent advice.

Yes I did bring the pup in the house, I've kept one crated while the other one is out. I was trying to let the puppy get use to being in a house, up to now has only been in a kennel. The 1 year old is a cane corso that has issues, I have been working on for the last 7 months. He is great with me but, was never socialized, now that he is bonded with me he is just overly jealous. I am gone alot in the daytime working, so I thought a spayed female companion would be a good idea. I really feel it will work if I do this right.Ihavent read eds artical but would like to what is it called or where can I find it. Thanks

As much as possible, I'd try to not change things too much for the Cane Corso, let the puppy adapt to your arangements. What about all the other dogs? All the shepherds?

I sold the 2 shepherds about a year ago. I have some medical issues and doctor didnt recommend doing the training anymore, they had so much drive, they wanted to go, go, go. and I just cant physically do it anymore. The cane corso I have has like, no drive he could lay in bed with me, hang out and watch tv. I just want a dog or two to enjoy, I am all done with the hard training, breeding and stuff, I have a whole new respect for good breeders and trainers.

"Not in the house" meant "Don't do the intro in the house."
It did NOT mean "the puppy has to live outside."
