Hi everyone, Ambi has some scattered small bumps (they are in the skin) on various places on her body, some seem to be very itchy while some are not. I'm wondering if they could be hives, she's not covered in them, but is pretty itchy. Can anybody tell me what hives in a dog would look like. I don't think they're bug bites because I haven't had any bites on me and she has advantix on. She is allergic to grain but to my knowledge all of her current foods are grain free. Thanks
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
Its weird, she has clusters of them, they are not red, they are raised and roughly pea sized, not really weepy although some have scabs from where she has scratched and they seem to be occuring in little clusters she has 3 or 4 along the inside of one front leg, 3 on the point of her shoulder, 1 on the top of her head, and one (the only one on the point of buttock that was more like a cyst). She had small bumps on the inside of her ears but these have disappeared in the past few days. I'll try to get a picture but they're really hard to see more something that can be felt(and itched).

Any of them look kind of peel-y? And if you lifted a scab, would hairs come too? (I'm wondering about staph. It can have many different appearances, BTW; don't think that if it doesn't look like I describe, it's not staph.)
It may be visually obvious to the vet that it's staph (or whatever) but s/he may still want a couple of scrapings. It's simple and it's not expensive (and is a good thing to do, IMHO).
The ear ones to me, did not seem to be the same, I do think they came at once and normally I don't have her swim but yes she did swim at the beach, and I think I noticed them after. They're not peeling and the fur does not come off.

Canine fleas can and do live in sand at the beach and can be a problem.
True sand fleas (and they are called other names too) are different. The "cyst" description is what makes me think of them.
Betty, is is sand fleas that you were thinking of?
Jodi, the one "like a cyst" ..... did it look like a nodule with maybe a dot in the center? Has it resolved?
I'm going to find some sand flea info. There's a kind of common idea that this just means "fleas at beaches," but sand fleas are a whole different thing from the normal canine fleas.
The cyst one resolved with a hard scab, no nodule. I took a good look at them today, the skin isn't reddened, the scars are dark and come off with no fur, possibly they could be mosquito bites but these have lasted for longer than I think a skeeter welt would... You can feel them through her fur but not really see them visually, although she does seem to be less itchy today.
