As most of you know, I am a HUGE advocate of adopting senior pets. They are so very often overlooked at shelters... they aren't as cute as puppies, and people are afraid that they will get sick or die too soon.
My thinking, however, is a lot different. I believe that even if a senior dog only has days left, those days should not be spent in a shelter. Those days are so very precious, and they should be spent with love and affection- in many cases, it may be the only love and affection the old pet has known in it's life. What an amazing gift to give!!!

I'm a huge fan of Senior Horses as my "rescue" of choice. So many fabulous senior animals need homes from the 9 year old Labs to the 16 year old horses (who are at that perfect seasoned age for me but many times past "show prime"). Ginger, 23 was with us only 3 years (bought at auction for almost nothing after losing her owner to deployment)She'd get after cattle until her last few months. Now we are making quality of life decisions for Jake-17 and with us a year, not a day spent in the saddle, not a day I regret kissing that nose. Older, wiser eyes have a way of burrying themselves in your soul <3
