I think I am off the grid as of today. I can fulfill all my energy requirements with my solar setup. This includes two refrigerators, one 1.5 ton air conditioner, one 2000W water heater, water pump, laptops, Lamps and fans. I have some calibration issues with my charge controller, but the system is able to support my load !!!! Granted, it needs more work. I have been planning this for almost two years.
Well, that is Sadha, He is a bigger boy now. The video was recorded in July 2012 . Thank you so much for the kind words. I am really proud of my efforts.
The system has a lot of flaws and need to be worked on, but I have demonstrated in principle that I can be off the grid.
My SPVs are generating enough electrons than that are required to drive my load
I think decentralized power generation is good for the people and the environment.
Actually getting away from cities will solve 90% of the problems, but that is a different issue
Nicely done, Ram. I'm sure many of us would love to be independent like that from the grid but just don't have the resources or expertise to pull it off. That had to take a lot of effort. That's something you can truly be proud of.
Not sure about your area , but Solar is better bang for your buck when it comes to power generation. No moving parts, no maintinance. No heavy structures to erect. If you live in a very windy area, then a small windmill as a supplement to solar is not a bad idea, to get some juice in after the sun sets.

Thanks for the info! We were thinking wind because there are a large number of wind farms in our area (unfortunately, all the energy from them goes to power cities in other states!) We have access to the maintainance and problem solving, whereas solar is a bit intimidating to me. I'll have to do a bit more research about solar though if that is a more cost effective route.
