Bacall was due on Thanksgiving, give or take a day. I thought.
At midnight I go down to the kennel to bring her up for the duration and there is no Bacall. I find her in a tunnel that she has dug, in the little bend around a 90 degree corner. I can hear a pup.
I start to go in there and decide if I get stuck, no one will know, and that probably would not be a good thing. Run back to the house wake my husband, and run back there.
Bacall is not wanting to come out.
I start belly crawling in and while nose to nose with her manage to get the pup and somehow get it behind me where my husband can grab him.
Of course Bacall wants out now. Somehow she did it, I believe I ate dirt. A lot of dirt.
Tell my husband to get the pup and Bacall to the house.
They do.
I find out backing up out of a tunnel is a totally different thing then belly crawling in. Especially when it's angled down.
Mom and Pup is doing fine, she is in labor and we should have number two shortly.
Betty needs a drink.

Wow Betty, that was quite the midnight romp. To say you had tunnel vision might even be an understatement.

But how sweet was that light at the end of that tunnel, less the scrambling mom and mouthful of dirt of course.
How exciting. You have such adventurous litters. It's no wonder they're such great working dogs.
3 boys, oh my. I can feel that puppy drive kicking in again.

				4 boys so far.
I have to confess to a few seconds of pure panic after I sent Russ up to the house with pup and mom and found out that belly crawling backwards up a slight incline was totally different, and forwards had been bad enough.
I was wondering how long it would take me to miss me! LOL
