What are the training steps involved to teach a dog to walk on the treadmill???
So far we can manage "up" and she sits on it. If she hears it beep to turn on...she's outta there! I haven't pushed the issue as I didn't want to make her too fearful of it. She has watched us do it since she was very young, and looks intrigued and curious. I thought it best to not try until we knew how.
CJ-I enjoyed your photos very much...gorgeous dogs, and scenery!
I dress warm and we go to the local conservation area for a walk. I'm very lucky that the main roads are well maintained and kept cleared of snow. The paths thru the pine forest part are protected from most of the snow so we'll walk thru there sometimes too.
Sasha loves stalking the birds but is so big that she will never be successful in catching anything. We practice alot of recalls on our walks and now we've been practicing Rally moves on our walks as well.
Really cold days, we'll go to Home Depot or Petsmart to do our training. Good practice for working on the focus command; especially in front the cat cages.
If it's really horrible outside, we do alot of "find it" games in the house with her toys and treats. Tires her out quite nicely.

If you make a new thread, we'll explain about first desensitizing to it and then teaching how to "work" it. (Step one for me for a dog leery of the machine is the machine "on" with the dog NOT on it .... just as near as she wants to be. {For a dog not used to seeing it, step one would be the machine "off" and the dog only as close as she wants to be.})
