Nothing concerning or serious. Dog paws just seemed kind of special to me this morning, relaxing on the floor after the morning outing.
All covered in snow, those cold, outstretched paws filled with so much love and wanting to make a connection.
Could easily have pushed the damp, wetness aside but decided to sit and let Vince make the calm connection. He just wanted to touch my leg and then relaxed his head on my foot.
Next thing Echo was crawling in closer and my other shin gets his paw connection. He relaxed on his side, head outstretched, staring at my face.
A few minutes of silent bliss and Garrett comes stumbling into the mix. We all knew he was coming, everyone tolerant of getting stepped on by the unsteady old soul and he plops himself by my side, head on my thigh, paw slowly waving in the air, hoping to connect with something while asking me to put my paw on him. I gently put a hand on his shoulders and he relaxed into the moment.
A four way connection that lasted about a half hour until hubby broke the peace, bursting in with plans for the day.
Nothing special but that 1/2 hour connection had us all so bonded and now energized, I just had to come and share my morning's wonderment of the paw.

What a beautiful picture you've described with your words, CJ.
For me too, those quiet, peaceful moments of human/canine connection are among the most special and enjoyable aspects of having dogs in our lives.

can't say i've sought that kind of connection , but i have a special respect for the dogs' paws too .
working in the wide range of conditions that we do , i'm amazed that the dog just bolts out of the door every morning . . . no concern for what type of footwear might be most appropriate for what ever conditions we might encounter , or how many and what type of layering will get us through the day .
the dogs' foot ( paw ) is this all purpose , go anywhere piece of physical machinery that gets the dog anywhere it needs or wants to go , and yet , as cj experienced , capable of silent communication as well .
dogs : the best part of being human |

What a nice picture you painted CJ. Snow covered paws & wonderful human dog connections. How wonderful is that!
My pups are looking forward to some snow. They love it. Had some snow specs here on & off today. The weather is forcasting the possibility of 2-3 inches of snow Christmas morning. I hope so!!! Been a couple of years since we had a white Christmas here.

That’s great guys. Was just such a wonderful way to start the day, had to share the appreciation that was bubbling inside.
Probably has a lot to do with the fact I've got the next 5 days off and needed the chance just to relax.
Bob was busy reloading the vehicles with washer fluid and chopping the last batch of winter wood, it didn't seem like the right time to articulate the moment with him.
Thought you wonderful Leerburgers might understand.
And I don't know Anne, it started snowing around 3:00 again, just when we got back from our longer hike and hasn't stopped.
Those big fluffy snowballs. Thank goodness it's not super cold, but it's making a mess of the highways just when people are rushing around, trying to get to town to get in that last minute shopping.
We're sitting at about a foot and a half in the yard (probably more now) and our hike was one big effort in breaking trail.
I get CM's idea of the leader is always first but I was happy to let the boys take the lead today.

Bob squawked to get me to turn around and you can see Vince's path back as he's in true form. "What... mom's stopping, what, what? Did you want me to find a ball for you or something? What, what...which way mom?” Talk about a velcro dog that's just too willing to please. The snow intensifies it, he just loves snow too.
This one was funny:

He'd just done a string of commands and I said "Yes". Well you'd of thought I told him to "go long". He knew a reward (ball) was coming. In his anticipation, he ran right into this bush and got doused with snow. I had to laugh. He didn't move an inch, lazer eyes, while Bob got the picture.
I think it was nature's way of telling him to cool his jets.
And this one was just a love ball all day. I was standing by some kind of bump in the snow and up he goes, "Mom...time for a kiss."

And Ian, you're so right about the mechanics of those incredible paws. Just staring at them this morning, in that relaxed state, had me in such awe with the way they are constructed and as you mentioned, the versatility in what they're capable of.

I totally get that connection CJ, it is something I have never achieved with a human, that simple and uncomplicated relationship is the one constant joy in life.
And all that snow! we are having our usual warm, wet and blowy Christmas weather, my daughter will be sick with jealousy when I show her your photos!

Tracey, I'm not super big on Christmas and definitely not jealousy where I'm concerned.
If you can arrange a flight, you and your family would be more than welcome to spend a snow filled Christmas in the great white north, anytime.
We've got a modest home so it would be wall to wall fur balls with your 4 and your daughter's but hey, now that's my idea of Christmas.
Bully sticks and baited water for everyone, separate and supervised of course.

Beautiful dogs-I miss having a malamute.

I tell you what, if we come up on the old lottery one day, you are on!!
I love Christmas, and Sam IS Miss Christmas, but it's been another rough year so I am not as YAY about it as I usually am, but it's people like you who always manage to put a smile on my face, and an invitation to come visit for Christmas is one of the nicest things you could give us
Sending you a hug an kiss from us xxx
