So my mum comes home from walking one of our dogs (Misha, an 8yr old husky) on Christmas day, she was very upset.
Apparently she'd decided to take a bush walk, and Mish was ambushed by these two off-lead labs. The other owners were shouting at mum to let Mish off lead, in her exact words 'let it off-lead so there's no problems!' Mum kicked the first one in the head but the second one rolled Mish on her back and went at her.
By the way, my mum is 5'2 and weighs 45kgs, so she really had no chance. She kept kicking the dogs (she thinks she broke ones ribs) until the owners reached them and pulled their dogs off.
Mum checked Mish over - she had one puncture and a lot of slobber all around her neck and stomach. She was clearly terrified and had wet herself.
Mum told them that there wasn't any real damage, just a lot of noise. The other owner replies, 'if you'd let her off-leash like I said, this never would have happened.'
Uuuuh, wtf? This was in a national park, where dogs must be leashed at all times. Their dogs didn't even have collars on!
So of course mum had a go at them, saying that she should really get their dogs rego numbers and report it etc etc... She also pointed out that our other dog, a 53kg Corso would probably have killed their dogs if he was with her.
And still, as she was walking away she heard the dumbass say 'but still, it wasn't our fault'.
Anyway, after all that Mish is fine. We gave her a thorough once over and cleaned the one puncture in her neck.
I just had to rant to someone about how stupid people can be

That's a horrible thing to happen, glad your mum and Mish are Ok, people can be such idiots. You should still report this to someone, imagine the public outcry if it was two pitbulls, but these idiots should be made accountable for not following the laws and not controlling their dogs it may have been a different ending if they got a hold of someones little fluffy dog!

You should definitely report the idiots and I would take Mish to the vet to be checked. Puncture wounds can infest from the inside where you might not notice anything at first.
Glad they're ok. Hope the New Year's holiday is better.

I agree with reporting them, at the very least to know if the dogs rabies is up to date. Hope misha heals fine.

It's a PITA when you can't take you dogs out without running into stupid people with loose dogs that they can't control. Mine have been attacked 5 times by out of control dogs. I feel your pain.
Glad that Mum is ok. Keep a close eye on that puncture wound.
I agree, that they should be reported. They will be there again & the same thing will happen to someone else with maybe a worse outcome. I reported the last one that attacked us...he tried to bite me & my dogs. The dog came from over 2 acres away to get at us. The owner had no remorse at all. Took him forever to chase his dog down to leash him. GRRRR!!!!!

Get your mom a can of mace spray and a small carrying stick so she can defend herself and your pets from being mauled. She's lucky the dogs didn't turn on her while she was kicking at them. Give the poor woman and your puppy a hug for me. She must have been terrified (both).

Thanks all,
Fortunately we don't have rabies in Australia, so that's not an issue (thank god). Mish is also on 2 weeks of antibiotics because she tore off her dew claw on Christmas eve - I called her vet and he said to just keep an eye on the wound, the antibiotics will do the rest.
It's also illegal to carry mace in Sydney, but I'll recommend that mum carry a stick or something.
As for reporting them, I'm not sure how I can - mum didn't get the owners or dogs information. There are tonnes of labs around my area, and we don't even know if they're from the same household...
There's a noticeboard near the entrance to the walk, so I might do up like a poster or something reminding people that it's a leashed area, and that there was a recent incident.
It's incredible that there are so many fools around. Looking around this forum, there are heaps of people that say their dogs have been victims of other owners' stupidity
What is wrong with people!?

Glad to hear Rabies is not a concern, I would still report it to the park authorities so they can have a record of it, just in case it happens again. Glad to hear your pup is doing well.
