One big problem I'm having in obediance with my 20 month old GSD bitch, is that she kind of shews on her apport.
She brings it nice sits but when she sits she starts shewing on the dumbell. When she runs with the apport in her mounth she doesn't do this.
I tried to calm her by petting her under the chin but then she stops and starts again.
I first tought it was the material of the dumbell because with stick she does not do this and hold them very firm. I bought an other material and she still does the same.
Also I tried to take the apport on walk and instead trowing the stick I played with the apport and she keeps shewing.
Many times especially in high drive dogs the chewing comes from the anticipation of the out. One way to solve this is that not every time the dog comes in for a front sit you demand an out. Most of the time you will play tug of war with the dumbbell and every once in a while you demand an out. Try it.
I learned the HOLD by putting the dumbell in her mounth and running arround with her and saying VAST=HOLD. In a later stage when dog comes to me sitting infront of me I pet her under the shin and saying HOLD and also giving little taps at the dumbell on each sites so she has to hold it otherways it falls out of her mounth.
I read an article here about Flinks which describes this and because I'm having also problems with a firm grip in protection work during the persuit and attack I thought of this.
But I also found that he gives courses at his range in Germany and I'm also in EU I was thinking of going there. But I e-mailed him and still didn't got any reply.
Is the video (what is the title)fully describing flinks courses? Or is it more of what you can expect at his courses.
Greetings and thanks
Mickey you sound like you are well on your way to having a good bitch, but need a little help with coaching and polishing up you and your animal. I have posted some info on another topic that may help you. If you can see Benhard in person, go. Forget the tape. Sorry Ed. LOL. I have yet to see him but have watched the video and have spoken to a few people that have seen him. The overall review was either nothing relly new to they learned something. But all had a great time and said he is a nice person. I think you need to think a little when watching him and really let the guys training sink into your head in order to really grasp that, he has refined many things that people think are the same old things. Anyway, I think he can help you. Overall your bitch has a problem and I feel from what you have written maybe a little to much stress from somewhere. Like you stated in you tracking she gets distracted by you. A good coach will clear this stuff up for you.
