So our last foster GSD found his forever home a month ago. After fostering for this particular rescue for a year, we decided we needed a 3-month break. So all was going well, house has been quiet, hubby has been able to catch up on his beauty sleep , we can walk from one side of the house to another without worrying about closing the indoor gates behind us (last foster dog really wanted to play with our resident GSD, she wanted nothing to do with him, so they were separated). Ah......

Until last Wednesday night, a fellow dog club member sent us a link to our local animal shelter. There was a 2 yo Dutch shepherd that was scheduled to be euthanized. He was found by the animal shelter a year ago as a stray. A couple adopted him, kept him for a year. They returned him because he peed, pooped, and was out of control in the house. Plus they just got a new baby, so they had no time for him.

Since he was an "owner return with behavioral issues," there was no holding period for him.

Being the suckers that we are for helping crazy/high energy working breeds. Of course we had to take him in

We are really not looking for another resident dog, LOL. This little guy is very sweet though, he is definitely working his way into our hearts

He has the body and shape of a Dutchie. His forehead is too wide though, we suspect there is some other breeds mixed in there, maybe a few generations ago.

We will see. We suspect he may have some suppressed drives. If he has the proper drives, we will train him in sports (we train in Mondioring with a PSA club, I know, weird, but we love our club!). If not, we will train him in basic OB and find him a good pet home.

Good luck with the new guy. Good for these dogs that you open you home & hearts to help them.

Whether you keep him or find him a nice new home, it sounds like this dog's luck has definitely turned around for the better to have come into your lives. Good luck!

We had a similar experience. Took a year to find her the right home with a former Marine and his wife. Sirah is now the center of attraction in a loving environment. She was a challenge worth taking on.
