Today I felt so much better as a result I got all three dogs out. Took bindi and Terra together. Once Terra calmed down a bit, she did very well heeling on the right side as bindi heeled on the left. She did well sitting when we stopped and recovered quickly if anything startled her.(terra)
We walked fast which Terra loves, she always want to walk fast. She is built for speed. Took the cody man out as well and he did very well. we even walked farther at the shopping center.
How is it going with all of you with your pups? sharon
Got Duke out for a short walk this morning, then laid down a trail in the back yard to his breakfast to give him something fun to do boring but better than his mornings have been lately!
Plans for this weekend - sitting outside the local shopping center, a good distance from an adoption event - I want to work on desensitizing/lowering value of strange people and dogs so he'll focus more on me while we're training in public.
Also working on back tie/prey drive in the back yard, and possibly training if I can stand up long enough
Started some of the groundwork for nosework training today. I don't have a training lab yet, so I had him "find" his toy that I hid in various places on my bookshelf.
Of course, his exuberance caused him to knock a shelf down and all the books came tumbling down on top of him (don't worry, paperbacks and a particle board shelf, no damage done). His reaction? Tail wagging with his toy in mouth. I'm so grateful that he has NO issues with environmental stressors.
Training was cancelled last night due to weather, a-gain.
Did some indoor work brushing up some things that get lost in the shuffle; touch pads, holding, look, duration on IB ("gooood"). Did some more work on distinguishing platz from down and entering the fuss.
Used the touch pad, tether, and barrier trying to add distance to sit/down/stand. She wants to take a half-step forward on the stand, pbly because I did a sloppy job of luring when I laid the foundation for it.
Outside for some tug, with work on the outs. Tried to do some dumbbell retrieves but a stray dog must have marked up the front yard, because she was crittering and refusing to retrieve. THEN, she had nerve to try to beat me to the dumbbell and run off with it when she saw I was going to pick it up.
Last night - OB stuff with food : position change from a distance, heeling with stop/down in motion. Then good games of tug with me sitting down and Duke doing his best to kill his new canvas duck. He'll sometimes growl during tug with my husband, but not with me. Outs and obeys faster when Dan asks for OB during tug games as well. Interesting IMO (Pretty sure Dad is the 'fun' one )
Today in between breaks while working on my report, I taught Carlin HIGH FIVE (which is different than PAW), and to "OPEN" his crate door by pulling on a rope I attached to it. We also worked on eye contact (WATCH) under distractions today. Really happy with his progress.
