My neighbors rang my doorbell this morning thinking a stray running around may be mine. Not mine but scared, skinny, and cute as anything. The neighborhood "dog lady" that I was pointed to said she's never seen him before. He must have been dumped off. Old ratty collar with no tags. No microchip and he's intact. I'll put up a few signs but I'm not really hoping to find the owners. If they call they can go get him from AC. They'll have to answer for his weight and pay to have him neutered before getting him back from them. He's underweight enough that his hip bones stick out along with most of his ribs.
I figured he could stay with my brother for a few days until he's no longer legally a stray and then I'd find him a rescue. I even called and verified that one had room. Of course I found him right as I had to head off to class for the day. I put him in the bathroom with some blankets and water.
I walked in my door 6 hours later and was greeted by two dogs. Apparently they spent the day together and got along just fine. That's really NOT how I wanted to do introductions.
I love Tanner and he has a home with me for however many years he has left. That said, Tanner is an absolute coach potato. Even with food he really wants he still isn't willing to move much to get to it. Just not a high energy dog. Sweet and a wonderful companion but I think even lower level competition OB wouldn't be fair to ask him to do. We'll get a CGC and then call him retired.
I'd actually already started looking for another dog. This dog seems to be more of what I'm looking for. He's skinny and I know that has a big part in it but he seems more food motivated than Tanner is. Much higher energy level. I think he's about a year old.
I brought him to my brothers place to get help with getting him bathed and they fell in love with him. So he's got a home already if it doesn't work out with me and Tanner. I figure we'll give it a try.
He's about 30 lbs. I know he's got beagle in him(skull shape and eyes) and maybe a little boxer because of the muzzle.
I'm not sure. The handle isn't that lever type some dogs can open. I made sure that it was latched firmly before I left. It opened the other way so if it was pushed in it would have been Tanner doing it. He's a pretty big boy. Maybe 70 lbs of Boxer managed to push the door in.
Lance's eyes get all bugged out anytime I'm feeding him. He's completely house trained and learning sit fast. He learned to respect the baby gate pretty quick. I've decided to block him out of the front of the house to give Tanner his own space.
You know, Cheri. I wasn't sure of boxer either. I've seen some hounds that had broader heads and shorter snouts than Beagles, but otherwise similar in appearance and markings.
Had a lip curl and some posturing towards Tanner today from Lance. My place isn't really conducive to complete separation so I took him to my brother's. He's turning out to have a somewhat skittish personality. I reminded my brother to not cuddle and coo at him when he's nervous about something.
He's doing well with their cat. He's interested but respectful of hissing.
