 Where does your dog stay when you go on vacation?

A while back I received some really good advice (from my LB buddies) to discontinue "doggie daycare". She has successfully learned to stay home alone uncrated with no problems.
Here's my dilemma: We plan to go on a 5 day vacation the end of April. In the past we would have left her at the daycare, and not worry about her....But now that I know better, what do we do with her??
The only people I would trust to take care of her are going on the trip with us. I don't want a stranger coming into our home, and I don't want to leave her at a stranger's house. She has gone to this daycare since she was very young, and is accustomed to the employees and surroundings. (though it's been many months)
So, do I seek a "babysitter", or leave her at daycare....OR, does anyone out there have any alternative ideas? I am drawing a blank.

I use a traditional, run-of-the-mill boarding facility. It's different from the doggie daycare in that there is no interaction with other dogs. All of the dogs are cared for individually.
I wasn't happy about leaving my dog with strangers the first time, but I shopped around, inspecting several facilities before I decided on one. I couldn't be happier with the one I ended up selecting.

I haven't been on holiday for ten years, I am too much of a wussy to leave the dogs, I miss them even if I go out for the day!
I have been told on more than one occasion I need to get a life

I haven't had to leave any of my dogs in several years. They've either gone with me or stayed with "Grandma and Grandpa." Now, the latter is no longer possible so they'd either go with me (preferred) or I'd have to find a good facility to leave them.
If your day care is good and has the capability of overnight stay, maybe they'd be your best option. But, a good boarding facility would definitely be worth finding. Personally, I would probably board with our current Vet because the staff there is experienced and very caring.

They come with us when it is possible. Or if it is not for too long my mom, theonly person Harley will let in the house, that care of them.
But mom also supervise the barn, so if it is for more then a few days, I send them to my agility club kennel. No doggy play but my boys can be together when the staff is around but overnight they have their own space.

I realize it isn't a popular choice on this forum but we leave our dog at a kennel we trust when we go on vacation, if we can't take her with us. That said, like Duane mentioned, we are very selective and have inspected many before we made our choice. We make sure there is no interaction with other dogs. The individual kennels are separated by solid walls, not just fencing. Finally, the kennel we use individually walks each dog a couple of times each day or lets the dog out for exercise in a large enclosed yard. They will play fetch and hide and seek with her toys. It's a small operation so they can do that. Also, each kennel enclosure has a large inside section and an outside run. She gets individual treatment so we are comfortable with her in their care. Not all kennels are like that.
I absolutely hate not being able to take her with us but sometimes you just have to get away.

My dogs go with me. But if I have to go without them I have a couple of working dog owner friends that will take my dogs for me.

My dogs also go with me since I have separation anxiety and worry about them when we leave them behind. It's not so bad when my husband stays behind with them.
I found a really cool kennel (that's really expensive) that has doggy daycare OR the option of one-on-one with a staff member. They are the only kennel I've ever heard of that allows intact dogs into doggy daycare and separates them for one-on-one if there's a problem or a bitch comes into heat. I like that they're flexible so I've been saving up my pennies ($40 a night!) for my summer vacation in October.

Having a little over a month to research, you may be able to find a comfortable solution. If you trust the staff at the daycare, perhaps you could talk to them about an option that doesn't involve so much interaction with the other dogs (or perhaps you could interest one of the employees to be your personal dog sitter!)
