I will be totally upfront about this... I have never used an ecollar before. But I think I am ready to take that next step. The problem is I am totally uneducated on brands, models, etc. I don't want to spend a fortune on one but I want one that is easy for a newbie to use for training. I have an experienced helper who is willing to teach me the ropes, but I am so overwhelmed by choices and cost.
They are just another tool in the toolbox...but the dog should be properly well trained to the collar in order to be used properly.
Do not let it become a 'crutch' instead of proper training.
I have had a Dogtra 2-dog e-collar (1700 NCP) for almost 8 years & a single dog (1700 NCP) before that for 2 years. I have had no problems with either one. Use them daily for outings at the beach(in the water) in the woods on the fields etc. I LOVE THEM.

Oh yes, I am aware of the videos. The reasoning behind why I want to use the ecollar is my Malinois suffers from ADHD. Actually, we are having major problems with her off-leash work. She knows her commands, but she has a tendency to bolt the second she gets a chance. She gets plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation so that is not the issue. I have plans to compete with this dog, but her obedience off-leash needs to be at a higher level.
I honestly wish I knew the answer to that question. She has always been a runner and working her on a retrieve or the a-frame with a long line is getting a little ridiculous.
The ecollar's fine Nancy, but I think you should spend a little more time first figuring out whats pressuring her to bolt. You may really screw up your retrieves if your timing is bad.
How did you train your retrieve? How's her recall?
I have a Dogtra 300m and Einstein 500A. They are both great quality. I think the Einstein is a better value and have posted elsewhere here about my thoughts on them.
