cold cut steak is my highest value treat, not often used though.
Candy corn broken in half is another one my dog loves, it lasts well in your pocket.
When my dog was a pup I used cat chow quite a bit.
Lamb lungs is the highest I have found .. for both of my dogs. Seems expensive until you realize you can break them into tiny pieces.
My just about 5 month old pup will train faster if I use them and I have tried hot dogs, steak, zukes (which are second on the list for both dogs) and a lot of other treats that don't have wheat in them.
Mind you they stink - but I am starting to get used to the smell lol

Christian, one thing to remember is that you want to use your dog's choice of HV rewards.
Some things are almost universal, such as those listed above, but when I want to jackpot or reward for something very difficult (such as "procedures"), I use what I know this individual dog loves most.
Otherwise, I like a mixed bag (for that "slot machine" effect).
I've used a number of things like hot dogs, cheese, steak, pork. I prefer things that aren't too greasy or messy for me to handle (otherwise, I'm sure bacon would go over great!). As far as treats marketed for dogs, all of mine really go nuts for the Plato Salmon treats:
Each piece can be broken into at least six or so bits. They're soft but not sticky or messy or crumbly. Plus, they have a good fishy smell which really gets the dogs' attention.
Lol Christy .. just a delicacy that's out of this world - that and beef trachea dried and I am adored.
Merrick lamb lungs - I found them at my local feed store but they are online too.
Different size packages - I buy the largest one and it lasts a long time .. broken up into tiny pieces - I use scissors because some of them are hard to break. The dogs gather below my chair watching/waiting/drooling for any droppings lol.
Ohh and the rolls LB sells - called red something - have them on hand too as they are soft and very easy to cut up and if you add a slice of bacon in the bag with them, they are the bomb too.
I always have zukes on hand too - especially the salmon ones as they are only 2 calories and I have a slightly err fluffy tiny dog who has to lose a few pounds. But she has big bones and a pretty face (grin) just like me
