I lost my little Bug yesterday. He was 13, but he was in great health. He ate his dinner, went out with all the others and jumped into his place behind my knees to sleep Saturday night. Got up Sunday morning and he was laying flat out on the foot of the bed, barely breathing, with severe nystagmus. I called Steve to hurry home from dog training so I could get him to the ER, but in minutes he was gone. I can only assume some kind of CVA. At least it was fast and appeared to be painless for him.
I've been preparing myself to say goodbye to Sable (our Weimaraner). She's the real oldster; now totally blind after her last vestibular incident, but Bug was a complete shock. Steve found him in a grocery store parking lot, racing away from everyone that was trying to catch him. Steve finally gave up and sat down in the car to call me to come try and help catch him when he came and jumped in the car. "Hey, that was FUN! Wanna chase me some more?" At first, we had planned to give him to my sister and niece and nephew, but since they lived in TX, it was going to be a couple weeks before we could hook up. By then it was too late, he had already stolen my heart and I couldn't give him up.
Damn, I'm gonna miss my little Buggy-bug werewolf......
I'm so sorry, Becky. My condolences to you and your entire family. It sounds like Bug had a great life in the years he spent with you guys. I bet he's already playing Catch-Me-If-You-Can at the Rainbow Bridge.
I have a belief- some may call it silly or whatever, but it is something that means a lot to me. I would like to share it with you...
When I was a kid, my grandfather told me about the Rainbow Bridge. He also told me about St. Francis. In my little 8 year old head, I merged the two and my belief is that St. Francis is at the Bridge taking care of the animals and keeping them happy until their person comes to get them.
St. Francis, though he is a wonderful soul, can't do it all, so he has the help of people like us- those that love animals and have helped to rescue them. Maybe people who love animals but couldn't have pets due to allergies or whatever help as well.
Anyway, your precious Bug is there, with all of those wonderful people and animals. Just hanging out waiting patiently for you to come and get him... kind of like the parking lot where he waited for right car to come along...
