If somebody could help me dig them up I would really appreciate it. Tanner will whine for his meals but I'm trying to reduce that so I don't want to build on that to get a bark. He barks very rarely except at some very annoying neighbor kids. I'd like to teach Tanner to bark at me when my alarm goes off and keep barking until I leave my bedroom. I have insomnia and often will sleep through my alarm. I'm in school right now but if I was late for a job as often as I've been late for school this week I would not have a job anymore.

I had read that teaching a "bark" command coupled with a "quiet" command can be a good way to reduce problem barking. This has backfired, and while he most certainly knows the "quiet" command, he now barks MUCH more, during all sorts of different exercises. I thought he barked a bit too much before, but now its much worse! Good thing I don't live in an apartment...

I used to have a co-worker who said he always slept through his THREE alarms (one by the bed, a Louder one on the dresser, and a DEAFENING one in the kitchen) -- I suggested that he get some ingenius inventor to create an Eject-O-Matic bed for him instead ... No ignorable alarm necessary, just "set" the bed for your Wake UP Call and its patented "Tilt & Dump" mechanism will have you hitting the floor in no time flat, without any complaints from annoyed neighbors who hate Barking Dogs

I already have an alarm that rolls around my room screeching so I figure a barking dog couldn't be that more annoying. I also don't wake up till 10am so it's not like I'm waking everybody up at 6am. I've seen so much un-success with teaching bark and then not being able to control it after that .... for me, I think that there would have to be a good long stretch when the dog and I were together all day (working at home, dog comes to work .., whatever). Barking is a self-rewarding behavior. I've said it before in other threads and I know I said it here, but this is kind of a billboard in my mind: Be careful what you wish for. Also, a dog who learns to bark at a certain noise .... well, who knows what other noises a dog home alone will generalize that to? FWIW, I admit that I'm pretty phobic about my dogs not ever becoming the target of dislike or resentment in the neighborhood. I have taught mine that an alert bark is fine, but then when I come and look (which I have to do, EVERY SINGLE TIME, to make this work) and say it's OK (our phrase is "lawn guys!"), they stop. I do work at home. And even working at home, this was a loooong process.

Unfortunately, I think it was the Acme Company of Loony Tunes fame. PS I found out many years ago when I was working nights and going to school days that the clangiest or most un-ignorable alarms were (1) brass wind-ups with two bells on top, and (2) clock radios set to wake you up to the radio, and the radio turned WAY up (and not close enough to the bed to reach out and turn it off).
