I think this is a valid question. Are there are any introductory articles/websites anyone is aware of? I know that before i got the first Andrew Ramsey video, I couldn't find much out there. Seems kind of lame that you have to buy something to learn how to do the basics.
Any good youtube videos/ free training articles out there for nosework?
There are tons of resources out there. If you do both google and youtube searches for nosework training, detection dog training, and focused scenting training you can get a great introduction to the basics. Nosework is just a new angle on the principles of detection work. You create desire for a scent through pairing it with something the dog really wants. FWIW, I agree that it is a valid question. I've just been a little confused by the OP's overall posting style hence my initial post.
I went through my first class a month or so ago and the next session starts in March sometime.
These classes are taught by certified trainers that have passed all requirements to teach it.
This class was taught through the Community College system in the area but I don't know how many different organizations offer it.
This is their official web site but I don't see any class schedule.
If you contact any dog club in your area they should be able to tell you of any classes in the area.
My dog cant wait for classes and seminars... i'm kinda just doing this to have fun with her.. Shell be going soon.
So i should look up a few vids on youtube?
How did you all start? I mean, whats the basics of the sport?
My dog can already seek out people who hide.. Should i transfer that over to the sport?
I don't know anything about it.

If you're doing this just for fun, then make up your own game. The simplest way to start this is simply hiding treats. Start by "hiding" them in an easy spot where she sees you putting it--like in an open box. Then put the treat under the box so she has to push it over to get the treat. Then a closed box that she has to open up.
You can also hide a toy and play "find it." You just have to start by making the game easy until she understands the object of the game.
If this is for fun and enrichment with your senior dog (which is a wonderful idea) don't worry about whether you're doing it right. Just make up a game and play. And praise her for any level of success or interest. This shouldn't be frustrating for her (or you).
Search "scent games dog" on youtube & there are many videos. I'd look for more informal stuff that is fun for your dog, rather than worrying about the specifics of Nosework.
