I don't know if anyone has heard this or uses this product, its a wormer/ heartworm preventive/ flea control in one, but there are reports that is has caused over 30 dog deaths, its been on the market about 30 months or so. The report I read said one of the active ingrediants is produced/sourced in china. The manufacturer is denying any problems although there have been 2200 reports of adverse effects.

I'll see if I can get the date on the article I read, it told of a six pup litter three received Trifexis, three did not (all in separate homes) the three that got Trifexis are all dead, the three that didn't are fine. This article kind of reminded me of Vioxx...

I looked up the product info, and in their clinical trials during gestation some of the pups were born with patent ductus arteriosus, malformed sternums... the pups I mentioned in the previous post passed from enlarged hearts, makes me wonder if there is some cardiotoxicity with susceptible dogs. Something to keep an eye on.

Isn't this the product that has been known to be fatal in collies? I've recently known a couple people with DSs who suffered adverse effects from this product.
I think ivermectin/moxidectin is the product that has caused problems in collies. The product insert that I read said to use cautiously in collies but it was not specifically contraindicated to my recollection.

I do not usually post on forums (I am more of a lurker), but I wanted to relate a personal incident regarding this product. About 2 years ago, I had an 8 year old DDR/Czech dog who NEVER had any health issues. I brought him into the vet for his yearly check up so he could get a renewal on his heartworm meds, and the vet recommended trifexis. My dog was given the meds, and he died about 3 days later. The vet attributed the sudden death some obscure reason like "internal bleeding" and I couldn't afford an autopsy, but I know without a doubt trifexis was the causitive factor.
I've used Trifexis on all 3 of my dogs for more than a year and have no problems. When I was looking at making the switch I also saw all of the issues reported but my Vet suggested it. What I do is feed all three canned, wet food about 15-30 minutes before giving the Trifexis with no side affects. This was the one thing that I read on the Elanco (Trifexis' maker) website and it package insert says to give after meal.
I haven't seen any of the reports about deaths due to ingredients and can only hope that the manufacturer is being truthful.
