I recently took an online shaping class. I learned a lot - mainly that I need to up my rate of reinforcement and break it down into smaller steps. I did a blog post tonight, but I thought that I'd also post the clip of today's training session here -
Thanks, Betty. She's a pretty cool dog. I once called her my ADD dog. But she's matured pretty nicely and a low distraction environment with HV treats (keilbasa) really helps with focus, too! Re: clicker timing - the suggestion was to practice (separate from working with your dog) while watching ads on TV clicking when a scene changed. Really helps to hone the whole timing thing.

That's a GREAT idea for timing!
And what Bob said about shaping with another human .... I have not done that yet, but I could clearly see in this vide http://leerburg.com/219.htm that it can really open your eyes to timing.
i have done the clicker training for timing for the handler. It really works great! Clicker training is a blast and my dogs love it! Also, you can have a partner toss a ball into the air and when the ball reaches its highest point, click. Tricky but fun. ALso another way is to have your partner open and close their hand, you click only when hand is open or closed, you choose, set up your choice ahead of time. As a clicker academy graduate I can say that I was not disappointed when I learned how to train dogs with a clicker. My dogs think it is the best thing, since, since.. the treat!
Shaping with people, is a blast too. ANd being the person shaped really gives you insight into what the dog experiences when shaping. Love sharon and her pups bindi cody terra
Very cool. In the beginning I wasn't sure what the goal was then I put 2+2 together (laundry basket and clothes) and realized what was happening. I have limited experience with shaping having only done a couple things like teaching the object guard and the eye contact game (if you call that shaping). I have a couple "candidates" at the house I'm going to work with for fun. Thanks for the video.
