As expected itty bitty pitty puppy Broccoli wasn't that hard to find a home once he finished his antibiotics. He's now the first puppy of my housemate's boss's family (who'd been looking for a puppy for some time, wanted a rescue, but have a special needs daughter which made puppy selection more difficult). He's not their first dog however. He's settled in nicely and his name is now "Rocket" as the first time they met him (pre-manners work) he would rocket up to give them kisses. He's settled in very nicely, I think this is a good match.

'Murica is still with me through NO fault of his own. Being that this is an area of er...questionable levels of pet ownership and that it's the holiday season the applications I've got for him have been.....well....no....just no...(A nice balance of "I want him as a surprise gift for my elderly father", "I need a gaurd dog to get my girlfriend", and the standard people asking if I would train my fosters to "cure autism" >_< ) I will have trouble placing him in a pet home in this area that will work for him in the long run. This is a NICE dog. Bombproof, stable, perfect balance He's a dog that would be wasted in the average "pet home" in this area. He needs to do a job, he needs to do therapy work, or some sort of OB sport, to be honest, I wish I could find someone willing to roll the dice on a rescue pup for service work.

ANYWAY. Saturday I was supposed to go down and pick up a dog from a shelter in Indiana who phenotyped for low content coydog. But communication errors meant I ended up driving 6 hours for a dog that had been adopted last week....on the way back I figured "hey, I have room in the car" and there was a nice large city on the way back with a very overcrowded spca....walking through there was what I originally assumed was a boston terrier X ACD mix who was remarkably calm in his kennel (until I brought him out to look at him, where he proceeded to climb the kennel hand and "attack" him which earned him the "do not walk" tag...this dog was just saying "hi!" and I don't think even knows he has a mouth)

He's a bit ugly (I've been told I'm mean and that he's adorable, maybe he's just not my type XD), has the most adorable amount of ball drive, and had been there for months able to stay alive because he was easy to stack into a kennel with other dogs (no manners and excitement humper, but overall submissive and easy to boss around).

I noticed something was weird with him the moment I was in an enclosed space with him...his breath stunk up my car (and he insisted on breathing over my shoulder the whole time in the crate X_X) yet the teeth I'd seen at the shelter had been perfectly fine (I'd only taken a quick peek to double check his age)....Getting him out for his first walk on the way back I noticed his face was crooked. I pet him over, he wasn't in any pain, so I figured he had a deformity and I'd deal with that later. I did not on the other side of his mouth the bottom teeth were intact and healthy, but EXTREMELY dirty.

One vet visit and some xrays later....poor guy does have a deformity in the jaw region that he was probably born with. However he also has some evidence of trauma to the side of his face as well. It seems to have healed on it's own but he'd got some scary dental work that will need to be done. For now I"m making an appointment for a cleaning during which we'll remove the worst tooth that's was displaced and most likely has been dead for some time.

Temperment wise he's a sweety, just wants to be loved and pet and he didn't deserve to spend the holidays in an overcrowded shelter. I'm not doing anything for Christmas this year so an extra dog isn't a problem. He's from the spca so he's neutered, vaccinated (A LOT....seriously, he's had the 5 way and kennel cough at LEAST 5 times according to his records), microchipped twice (once in his neck and once in his...rib cage? apparently he wiggled lol). His tail has been amputated (happy tail). Once his teeth are under control I think he'll be a nice easy foster to train up. If you know anyone looking for little ACD mix let me know

I'm also taking name suggestions...right now he's Juggernaut when I'm trying to work with him on leash and Ugly Dog when he breaths on me....
