I was waiting for the oven to come up to temp – so about 15 mins – and I was thinking about the suitability of some breeds for some lifestyles, and wondered what these ‘What breed best suits your lifestyle’ quizzes came up with when you ticked the boxes on offer.
I ticked all the least favourable human attitudes toward dogs, i.e. hit and miss exercise, little grooming, minimal training, likely to leave the dog alone all day, etcetera, and these are what ‘they’ came up with for a potential couch potato, indifferent to regular exercise and training, wanting an all round loveable companion that didn’t need much in the way of grooming.
I hope to god rescue centres don’t operate a check box system of placing dogs given what was suggested here!
Gosh, I'm almost embarrassed to say these were my results. Actually, there were several questions that did not offer any answer that fit me, so I had to pick the one that seemed the closest.
Kuvasz
Clumber Spaniel
English Cocker Spaniel
Field Spaniel
Flat-Coated Retriever
I find that hilarious. And isn't is funny that all three of us in the thread so far got the Kuvasz in our top five?! I recently did another one of these quizzes -- wish I could remember where I found it -- but the top choice they gave me was the Mexican Hairless. I kid you not.
Definitely pitching certain breeds, but there are some interesting factoids.
Dobe
Newfoundland
Samoyed
Siberian Huskie (strange about these two; I kinda admire Malamutes), and
Clumber Spaniel (?)
I like the little descriptions from the WHY links...
This dog is right for you because...
"The Siberian Husky is a beautiful dog breed with a thick coat that comes in a multitude of colors and markings. Their blue or multi-colored eyes and striking facial masks only add to the appeal of this breed, which originated in Siberia. It is easy to see why many are drawn to the Siberian's wolf-like looks, but be aware that this athletic, intelligent dog can be independent and challenging for first-time dog owners. Huskies also put the "H" in Houdini and need a fenced yard that is sunk in the ground to prevent escapes."
I missed the "WHY" links. Maybe I'll do it again to read those. I find it distressing that they put so much emphasis on the looks of the Siberian Husky.
I didn't know Kuvasz were anything like spaniels and retrievers LOL.
That really puzzled me, too. I thought the Kuvasz was a livestock guardian breed, developed to be independent and strong-willed, kind of the opposite of congenial breeds like spaniels and retrievers that were bred to work closely and cooperatively with humans.
