I think I am a weirdo. I am running around cleaning my house(not a favorite activity) as if I were expecting the Queen of England to walk through my door.
What I am expecting is a dog who I will be bringing home tomorrow from SAR training to watch for 10 days. Her owner will not even be entering the house, yet I am obsessed and fanatical about scrubbing the tub (perhaps if I were a better housekeeper I wouldn't go so crazy).....this obsession hits anytime:
1. I am going on vacation
2. Whenever I am pet sitting.
I cleaned all morning, ran out to do a three hour tutoring session and now I'm back home cleaning.
Why? Tomorrow is my dog food co-op day...meaning I get huge quantities of raw meat delivered to my house and people come pick it up. On the off chance that someone might come inside, my house needs to be clean!
Good question (especially since I've been working seven-day weeks and ANY housekeeping is a special event right now)...
Anyone who has a scheduled visit gets the cleaned house. How important the visitor is determines how much effort goes into the cleaning. Anyone familiar enough to have an unscheduled visit gets the "lived in" version, and that includes solicitors and evangelists.
.....this obsession hits anytime:
1. I am going on vacation
2. Whenever I am pet sitting.
Is this me or does this happen to anyone else?
Nah, it's not just you, Sheila. Though I have very little experience with #2, the pet-sitting, I am definitely guilty of #1. Anytime I am going on vacation, my house has to be clean from one end to the other, top to bottom, before I leave. Otherwise, I can't enjoy myself. In my case I guess it's partly genetic. My grandmother had the same habit and was teased about it, too.
And, yes, I do clean house (or at least straighten up a bit) if I'm expecting anyone to drop by.
I hope you enjoy your ten days with your houseguest! Sounds like fun. And I'm sure the dog will appreciate the spotless accommodations!
