Yes, Cat, it is possible. It is about training and management. They may not have a love affair, but can coexist. Just because they have been trained to respect your cat, doesn't mean they will treat other cats with the same respect.

If this same cat goes outside and starts slinking around in the bushes it's a different story. But I know terriers are worse. Our cats pretty dog savvy but almost to the point where he thinks every dog is friendly. Good to know its possible though. old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown

I have had 3 W/L GSDs (2 now) here at one time (8 weeks, 9 mo & 3 yr old) & they were taught from day one to respect the cat. 3 were 7-8 week old pups when they came to me. Cat also had to learn not to push the dogs' buttons. She learned not to run in front of the dogs. So she would wait until she was far enough down the hall before she would run. LOL It's all training, management & consistency. MY DOGS...MY RULES

I've seen many of these dogs get along fine with "their" cat but we had to be careful when hunting around barn cats. My own Border terriers and my JRT were "controllable" around most of my friends cats but unknown cats were "quarry". What I've often noticed is the cat rules the pack in spite of the onry little killer bassids. In particular if the cat was there first. Sad huh! old dogs LOVE to learn new tricks

Ya our Persian learned to not run at first I just tjought he was dumb..he sure is dumb for a cat though compared to our orange tabby lol. Sweet im excited it can work and I think I could manage it! Bob off topic but were you able to allow your terrier off leash ever? the jrt? old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown

Bob off topic but were you able to allow your terrier off leash ever? the jrt? Every dog I've owned in the past 50 -60 yrs was reliable off lead and I've owned 18-20 dogs. That includes half a dozen different terrier breeds, terrier mixes and a number of different other breeds and mutts. Usually 2-3-4 at a time. They are still just dogs. old dogs LOVE to learn new tricks

Wont be til next summer at the earliest but just trying to decide if a terriers the way to go for sure. I've really liked every one I've met and I like the energy, and want a dog who can do something but want a smaller size too. old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown
